Landed 22 turtles 🐢 this year.

Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet this evening during a continuing, cloudy, cold 🥶 nor’easter on the low tide. Air temperature was only 62 degrees. It was very ...more crowded with the afterwork fishermen, but I got a good parking spot again. Three spear fishermen walked past my car 🚘 as I was putting my boots on. Two more swam across my fishing spot very close to me and I took 3 pics. It’s very scary to have young guys with deadly weapons in crowded areas. I hope that nobody makes a mistake. While walking to my rock 🪨, I saw two bluefish flopping in the sand. Soon after I started casting my Ava and teaser rig into the inlet, I saw a fish 🐟 break water to my left. I replaced my Ava with a popper, then lost a bluefish. After I replaced my popper with the Ava, I caught a lot of weeds and 6 fishermen started fishing 🎣 too close to my right. I started using the popper again, then caught, tagged and released 23” and 20” bluefish and missed two other hits. Looks like a popper is a better bluefish lure than an Ava.

Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet this evening on the low tide during a cloudy ☁️, cold 🥶, nor’easter. Air temperature was only 59 degrees Fahrenheit. Too many ...more people were there on Father’s Day. I was fortunate to get a parking spot in the first section near the jetty. Manasquan Parking Enforcement was there. Nobody was near my rock 🪨. Soon after I started casting my Ava and teaser rig into the inlet, the fisherman to my right caught a bluefish on a plug. Then he lost one in the rocks. Bluefish were chasing peanut bunker but it took a while before I got a hookup. The blue threw the hook then escaped. Late in the day I caught, tagged and released a 19” 2 lb 7 oz bluefish with a plain hook Ava A-17. While walking back to my car, I saw a fisherman catch and keep a bluefish. A drone flew up and down the inlet. The ocean was very rough. A few boats 🚤 were fishing 🎣 in the inlet and caught lots of weeds. I landed 7 blues and a fluke in 8 trips to the inlet this year. Took lots of photos.

Threw out canned, whole kernel ...more corn 🌽 for chum, then caught and released a 21” 3 lb channel catfish with corn 🌽 bait. Caught nothing with my homemade corn meal bait. Bluegills were on nests. Landed two with a 1/32 oz twister tail jig on 2 lb test line.

Threw out canned, whole kernel corn 🌽 for chum, then caught and released 3 redeared sliders, a musk turtle 🐢 and a 16 lb snapping turtle 🐢 with corn 🌽 and my homemade corn meal bait. Saw an osprey catch a fish. Took pics. Caught 18 turtles 🐢 this year

Went carping in 72.7 degrees Robert G Martin Lake this evening on a warm, sunny day with a light southwest wind. While walking to my fishing spot on the north shore ...more of the lake, a flock of 5 mallards 🦆 flushed. Then a red fox 🦊 chased a hen mallard to the lake and two ducklings 🐥 ran from the field to the lake. The mother duck successfully lured the fox 🦊 away from her offspring. I threw out canned, whole kernel corn 🌽 for chum, then caught 4 bluegills, a brown bullhead, a redeared slider and 8.5 lb and 7 lb snapping turtles 🐢 with corn 🌽 bait. Landed 13 turtles 🐢 this year. Carp were jumping out of the water in the middle of the lake. Lots of minnows were near the shore. A kayak fisherman was standing up in his water craft. Took photos.

Went carping in 74.6 degrees Robert G Martin Lake on the north shore this evening for the first time since the flood during a cloudy ☁️, cool nor’easter. A black ...more bear 🐻 was seen there recently but I didn’t find any bear 🐻 tracks in the mud. Saw lots of minnows for the first time this year. Threw out canned, whole kernel corn 🌽 for chum, then caught 7 brown bullheads and a feral goldfish with corn 🌽 bait. Saw carp jumping out in the middle of the lake. A 29” 8 lb 1 oz winter skate that I tagged in the Manasquan Beach surf on 11/11/2024, was recaptured 8 miles south of Montauk Point, NY, on 5/25/2025 for my 259th fish 🐟 tag return.

Went fishing 🎣 in the 71.7 degree Delaware River this evening on the outgoing tide after rain 🌧️ showers on a warm, partly sunny day with a light south wind. One ...more car was in the parking lot when I arrived but I didn’t see anyone. A Fowler’s toad 🐸 was near the entrance to the public fishing 🎣 area when I arrived and was still there when I left. I threw out canned, whole kernel corn 🌽 for chum, then caught and released an 18” 2 lb 2 oz channel catfish with corn 🌽 bait. Lost a small fish 🐠 while ultralight jigging. Didn’t get a bite on my homemade corn meal bait. Minnows and fish 🐟 were jumping out of the water. Saw a dead American shad. Lots of boats and personal watercraft were on the river. Double crested cormorants, crows 🐦⬛ and an adult bald 🦅 were nearby. Mosquitoes 🦟 were biting. Took lots of photos.

No cars 🚘 were in the parking lot when I arrived, but 4 cars 🚙 were there when I left. Threw out canned, whole kernel corn 🌽 for chum, then caught nothing with corn 🌽 bait and while ultralight jigging. Caught and released 2 18” 2.5 lb channel catfish with my corn meal bait. Saw three big fish 🐠 jump out of the water, 2 snapping turtle heads sticking out of the river, boats, personal watercraft, a water skier, 3 bald eagles 🦅, double crested cormorants, a wood duck and a Canada goose. Found fishing gear on the ground. While walking back to my car 🚗, there was a blue jay nestling on the ground near the feral cat 🐈⬛ colony. Took lots of photos.
