    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwwnUcC22MQ Kids are out of town, so I cajoled my wife into fishing with me today.  We struggled to net bait around the poles ...more out of Mayport, but got enough for a full livewell and a little bit of chum and didn't break the beach until almost 10:30.  But we got to Pablo grounds and hooked up with a king in the first ten minutes or so, so I thought it would be a banner day.  Trolled around for another 90 minutes when I saw a splash by the medium line.  I grabbed the rod and fed out a little line to let the lil' pogie run free, then WHAM! big splash and let's when I realized, "Holy Expletive! It's a sailfish!" Off he ran and we cleaned up the other lines and chased him down.  It was a nice one and I had the treble in his pectoral fin and the wire and leader wrapped around his bill a few times, so he wasn't going anywhere...

    Last week I set out to try and catch my first sheepshead with a buddy but I ended up slicing my toe open on an oyster and needed 6 stitches. Everything was against me, crazy wind and weather, super tides, wind knots, snags, freezing water but i managed to hook this guy (one of only two bites all day) and what a great fight.       56 air temp, overcast with on and off rain, 22mph NE wind, freezing wind chill, water temp on mid 60s, very choppy conditions, low tide, tough fishing

    I've had a rough start this year, been getting out occasionally but getting skunked at all my good spots. Today I tried the jetty on the slack low tide and caught ...more tons of small fish but nothing to brag about. Caught many species from bank and Black Sea bass, to croakers, pinfish, small black drum, one nice sand trout, a mangrove snapper. Nothing took on the big poles but something managed to crush

      A brand new mustad 7/0 circle hook that a chunk of pinfish on it. Probably a nurse shark but very impressive that any fish could do that (in lower right pic) hoping ...more to get into some quality fish soon.

    Details: Red (redfish) Drum

    Me and two friends went to this jetty this morning on the low tide. The current was ripping through so hard not even 6oz would hold. I was trying to catch a baitfish ...more so I would toss it way up stream and let it fall to the base of the jetty downstream and weight. I felt a hard tap and then my drag went nuts. 10-15min later I finally beat this beautiful bull back to the jetty and we netted him.

      Was one of the greatest fights I've had in a while on light gear and it made my day. We had to call it shortly as the current only got worse and the bait wouldn't ...more even get to the bottom.

    Details: Nurse Shark

    Today was a pretty slow day on the jetties. Schools of mullet stayed far off and few things were boring besides croaker and small sea bass. My friend and I both ...more had two runs each. One of my was this cool nurse that I was able to pull up for a pic, the other bit me off before I even got to the rod. Both of my friends runs were small spinner sharks that bit through or snapped. Not much else to say.

      92 air temp, SW breeze, current going out with that tide, baitfish way out in the channel, didn't see any blow ups besides spinner sharks, not much going, very ...more little bait around, water clarity of 4ft

    I love fishing Florida, I'm like a little kid here exploring and catching so many new fish. The first new fish of the day for me was this little black drum that ...more picked up the shrimp in the deep channel of the river. I was also more then happy to catch a decent puppy redfish at 19". Gave a good fight and are one of my favorite fish. Unfortunately Mr. snapper in the next post didn't let me admire

      The redfish long. The current picked up hard later and made it nearly impossible to fish but I had fun and caught lots of new species. Even landed a 5ft nurse shark ...more (sadly no pics :( )

    Details: Mangrove Snapper

    Finally got my first mangrove snapper. This makes new species #2 for the day. I was in the middle of dehooked my redfish when this guy nearly pulled my bait catching ...more pole in the water. Had to throw the redfish quickly back and save it. Good fight from the little guy and I clearly see why they call them snappers with those fangs. Cool catch. All around me in the water, large schools of mullet were

      Red snapper is good but I prefer mangrove cause you can get more of them and I think they taste better. The best is yellowtail snapper

      Those snapper are also one of the best tasting fish around if you keep what you catch

      Also bit through my leader after a 5min crazy fight. And the third was nurse shark that I got to the rocks but had no way of getting it up by myself, either way ...more fun day.

    Details: Other Saltwater

    These two pretty fish really stumped me today. They quickly attacked anything that got to close to the rocks. The both resembled blennies or rock hinds of some sort ...more but I'm not 100% sure what they are. Either way this makes new species # 3 and # 4 for me for the day.

    And finally my last post for the day and new species # 5 and # 6 (yes I'm counting the crab as a new species. While trying to catch bait for the bottom rig I ...more managed to catch this cool stone crab. I'm used to just getting angry blue crabs but this chill stone crab continued to eat the bait and chill as if I wasn't even there. Also caught my fair share of oyster toads. The last new species for me
