1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwwnUcC22MQ Kids are out of town, so I cajoled my wife into fishing with me today.  We struggled to net bait around the poles ...more out of Mayport, but got enough for a full livewell and a little bit of chum and didn't break the beach until almost 10:30.  But we got to Pablo grounds and hooked up with a king in the first ten minutes or so, so I thought it would be a banner day.  Trolled around for another 90 minutes when I saw a splash by the medium line.  I grabbed the rod and fed out a little line to let the lil' pogie run free, then WHAM! big splash and let's when I realized, "Holy Expletive! It's a sailfish!" Off he ran and we cleaned up the other lines and chased him down.  It was a nice one and I had the treble in his pectoral fin and the wire and leader wrapped around his bill a few times, so he wasn't going anywhere...

I fish the nearshore wrecks of Northeast Florida. I built a PVC rig to house a video camera that I can troll or drop. I was off one ...more of the wrecks out of St. Augustine and got a very cool surprise. Check out this video...

  4. My buddy Rick and I each got a spade fish on bow and arrow while fishing offshore from St. Augustine about ten miles. They are always hanging out right over wrecks, ...more and swim near the surface, so it doesn't take long to get a good shot at them.

Don't see many cobias but the cudas and kings hang out near my chum bags. but never bite. I guess I will try with a bow.

Theoretically, you might with cudas, because they hang out under the boat sometimes, but I've never seen kings swimming nearby. Cobia would be a potential target, ...more but I'd want the arrow tied to a buoy if I was doing that. I'm not sure if it's even legal to shoot cobia. But spade fish are definitely legal.

can you do that with kings or cudas

  5. Headed out at the crack on Saturday with my buddy Rick with dreams of making it to some Mahi, but the west wind was blowing steady so we had to alter plans a bit. We ...more couldn't make bait onshore until the sun was fully up. Then the tails started flipping and we had a full livewell and about 8 gallons of chummable fish. I made a ChumMaster 5000 last year out of 4" PVC that is one of my proudest DIY wins. It's hilarious. Maybe I'll post some instructions, because it's been great to have.  Anyway, got bait and started out.  HIt the first 9-mile spot which was I guess about 7 miles off. I don't remember the marks, but I'm new enough to the area that I really only have public numbers.  I just got a Simrad Go7 with StructreScan, so I can actually find stuff now. We saw tons of fish on the finder and saw the box culverts on the side scan so we fished it a bit. Got a king on a flatline, got one on a big lipped diver - white with red head - and got a spanish on a spoon, but it got halved by something on the way in. We moved further out, eventually settling at the Desco complex, and got another king on a flatline, got broken off twice by something monstrous that inhaled pogies on 4-oz jigs on bottom.  I keep hearing tell of goliaths breaking people off, but whatever it was, both rick and I got broken off on the same tackle that easily handled the slob ARS he caught, so it was something strong. The curve ball of the trip was the spadefish. I had Rick bring his bowfishing bow, and we each got a spade. I cooked 'em up that night and they were good. Solid bloodline that needed to get cut out, but very tasty.  Weird to filet. Almost had to do it like a flounder. I'll get some pics or videos up later, but it was a good trip. Can't wait for a true Lake Atlantic day to get out to 100+ feet.
