1. Details: Blue Catfish

Wrapped up the week with 21 blues and 6 flatheads while fishing hard. Burned through my entire live bait supply and it was worth it to find some tree shakers. Lots ...more of upcoming fish fry action and free catfish filets for family and friends! This trip pretty much made the Jon boat purchase completely worth it - even if I ran us out of gas once and we got caught paddling in a thunderstorm!

Best yellow of the week! This one went just over 16# and had the willow tree shaking when we pulled up. Same hole as previous blert, and our final check produced ...more a doubled up blue and yellow to confirm how productive the area is!

nice flattie, where do you get boat access along the Brazos?
  3. Details: Blue Catfish

Fished hard the latter half of the week soaking live bait in various holes on the river while she's been on a gradual rise. Managed to pull up this 27# blue ...more trying a new hole. Also managed a 20# blue in a hole nearby. The bite is on in the river. Look for deep holes to drop lines in slow to no current.

A new species for list, managed to land this beautiful butterfly ray fishing in Cold Pass on Friday night just after landing my monster bull red. See previous blert ...more for conditions and gear.

  5. Details: Red (redfish) Drum

Christmas came early this year! Went fishing off a pier near the junction of Cold Pass and San Luis/West Bay in memory of @NoodlerNate88 mom. Sat for a few slow ...more hours, but had a little luck as the tide began to ebb! This beauty red (loved her spots) hit my bait like a freight train and made several solid, line peeling runs. Landed, measured, photographed, and released alive

      What was length and weight?
    2. SSBruce88 0
Damn Bro... I've been fishing the Pass, and going offshore my whole life... I've caught lots of fish bigger than me..Dorado, ling, wahoo., and (ALMOST) a ...more sailfish. But THAT is the dream, right there.

Fishing the channel in approximately 6 FOW. Probably my last fish of the year with duck season reopening next weekend, so a great way to wrap up 2015!

and well all with the help of my buds. First fish on my 9' Penn Prevail rod. Used my well broken in Pursuit II w/Trilene big game 20# line. Air was much colder ...more than water. Slight NE breeze.

Casting in cove of a neighborhood lake where I know schools of shad hang out so I thought I'd match them with a silver Rat-L-Trap. Also, because the water clarity ...more was bad I thought something noisy would help. I was working a medium retrieve when this nice girl grabbed ahold! She started the fight slow, but got up to the surface and splashed around a bit before I landed her. I estimated about 4-5#

    1. theSturgeonGeneral13 0
Also, she had a parasite - you can sort of see it on the lateral line between her dorsal and anal fins. Not sure if this is a problem in that lake or not.
  7. Details: Gulf Flounder

Hook and line sampling for work (as mentioned in previous blert) and had fun showing my coworkers how us crew members catch some fish! I had a double drop rig on ...more and after I'd landed a few fish I felt a good pull, as I reeled in I saw a Hardhead hooked on with what appeared to be a flounder or ray chasing him!! I quickly realized that I had hooked not only the catfish but also a flounder! 2 for 1!

Doing some hook and line sampling today for work! Didn't have my personal gear but made due with the work setup. Fishing the bottom in upper Sabine Lake out ...more of Port Arthur in about 6 FOW. Water clarity was pretty good (~3 feet) even though there was a steady SSE wind and moderate wave action. Slow fishing at first, but the bite turned on after awhile.

    1. theSturgeonGeneral13 0
Managed to catch a variety of fish in a couple hours including 5 Hardhead Catfish, 1 Atlantic Stingray (kept for shark bait), 2 Atlantic Croaker, and 1 Southern ...more Flounder (blert to follow).
  9. Details: Pigfish

Down in Port O' Connor for work this week, so I hiked down the jetty at the mouth of the ICW with my light spinning setup to wet my line. No live shrimp at the ...more bait shop so I tried tossing squid. Moderate south wind so I fished the slack (north) side of the jetty and had fun with my coworkers picking up croaker, ladyfish, silver perch, hardheads, and a couple pigfish. Species count going up! Haha

    1. Matt Dobson 0
Just added pigfish today. Add it to the list!
  10. Hit the SS jetty on Sunday morning hoping to find the fish with calm conditions and a light NW wind.. Water color was less favorable than we hoped and the bite was ...more slow. Watched storm clouds build with hopes of staying dry, but we got hammered by a thunderstorm. Managed to hook up on this nice little Blacktip before the storm - pulled line pretty well and rocketed away with energy upon release.

    Blacktip Shark
