Hi Mike. Unfortunately, the removal of dams on the stretch in southern Lake county may have changed the river a little bit. Not much luck this year yet. You might ...more want to try some stretches in northern Cook. Maybe by Allgauers or the nature center just south of there? good luck!

Camo bass...interesting looking fish. Wonder if its from the industrial pollution nearby or ? I've caught a few over the years and most have been from this area ...more on the DesPlaines River.

I read that a lab at Auburn is researching this condition. I know their fisheries program is reputable
    3. theSturgeonGeneral13 0
Interesting, it could be related to some sort of waste getting into the water, could be an interesting location for a study on the water quality, sediment toxicity ...more and fish health @BIGsmallie
    4. Paul Lukas 0
@theSturgeonGeneral13 this is the site of the former Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. It has been deactivated since early 80's. The Military never used any harmful ...more ingredients in their weapons right ...?
    5. Paul Lukas 0
@theSturgeonGeneral13 thanks for the info, that area near Arsenal rd has had major industrial pollutants for decades. I've always felt the melanosis it is due ...more to this.
    6. theSturgeonGeneral13 0
The condition is not believed to be an issue in regards to the consumption of these fish @matt @BIGsmallie
    7. theSturgeonGeneral13 0
This condition has been described as melanosis, it is believed to be a genetic mutation, however scientists are unsure if the mutation is natural or related to environmental ...more factors.
