I just got a new penn 113h combo and was putting it together. I was just wondering if anyone knows the point of the back piece you screw in. Thanks in advance

The loop on it is for boat use, it's to clip on a retention strap, so the reel does not end up on the bottom.

they use to make the back piece with metal but now it cheap so don't over tighten it or it can crack

the full aluminum reel tend to come lose under stress so its just extra security

Like what @bassinboy01 said it's just to keep your reel clamped to the rod it's not alway needed if you trust the seat on your rod but it's always good ...more to have a back up plan just in case

It braces the reel much better. Without it you can feel the reel move left and right.

It's for extra security so the reel doesn't slip and slide around.

That's not 10 pounds more like 5-6 but good catch!

Haha nice strategy Man! Did you have to move the hook around on the blue gill before you casted again or did you leave it set through its mouth?
