      This is how I catch all my 60 plus blue catfish in the James river.

      Also use a heavy duty line like 80 pound test or higher braid connected to a t turn rig and then one end connected to a weight and the other to a heavy test fluorocarbon ...more for your leader.

      Shad work extremely well for blue cats. A state record is going to probably be upward of 60 + pounds so you'll probably use a good 2 inch chunk of shad on a ...more 6/0 or 7/0 hook.
