Cool mornings giving away to decent afternoons, but that’s all going to change in the next week or so. Some cold weather is upon us and like us the fish know it ...more too. Water temps have dropped considerably since last week. We are looking at around 60° and dropping. Water clarity in the river has been good. Fishing has been great this last week with all species being active. Walleyes are really showing up on the river ready to put the feed bag on for the fall. Walleye suckers on a jig or a jig tipped with a gulp 4” minnow has been the easiest presentation working on the river right now. Some anglers are vertical jigging spoons and Northland live-forage fish fry minnow, ripping them up off the bottom and let them flutter down. Most of the strikes have been when the spoon is fluttering down. If you get into some walleyes this is an exciting way to fish and definitely worth a try. Catfish are getting active as this water cools down. Stinkbait and chicken livers have been the baits of choice. Make sure that bait is on the bottom is key or you might miss the bite all together. We are also getting a lot of crappie reports coming in from out area lakes and it seems like they are biting pretty good right as well. Crappie minnows and small plastics are all you need to catch a limit. Make sure to bundle up with this cold and Good Luck on the water….
