  3. Details: Red (redfish) Drum

So I think I win for the catching the smallest redfish on rod and reel. Did a little kayaking after work today but the fishing was incredibly slow. Landed a few ...more small flounder, nothing work taking a pic of, and lost one questionable keeper on a head shake. Tried briefly to get a drum on a popping cork with a mullet below and nabbed this tiny guy. The crabs took the rest of my bait.

Well I did that earlier yesterday so it was much better to get out @Drew72
    2. Drew72 0
Still better than sitting in an office! 😉

  4. Details: Gulf Flounder

A friend of mine from Switzerland that I met last year came back into town yesterday and he wanted to meet up to kayak and fish. He had never done it before so I ...more took him flounder fishing. I landed 5 short ones and he lost two that were close of not keepers. Weather chased us off early but we still enjoyed about an hour and half on the water. Outgoing tide, water temp in mid 70s, lots of menhaden

  5. Details: Gulf Flounder

Got a bunch of vaccines in the morning and the doctor told me to go out and excersise to numb the soreness, who am I to argue? Fished rudee for a few hours, caught ...more lots of flounder today but only one single keeper at just barely 16". I took the one keeper home cooked him in butter, garlic, and olive oil and it was tasty. Caught all the founder hopping the jig along the bottom with short pauses.

86 air temp, water temp in low 80s, vis of about 3ft, lots of menhaden around, many people catching small flounder but no keepers besides my one. Incoming tode, ...more hot and sunny, lack of wind.
  6. Details: Gulf Flounder

Quite the eventful morning for me and my buddy. He was impressed with our last outing and wanted another shot for some big flounder today so we tried of best. I ...more caught an astonishing 14 flounder total and two small croaker on the gulp today, but disappointingly none were over the 16" threshold, some came just shy of it. My friend caught 9 flounder and one chunky 13" croaker. Everyone in the inlet

      @Jungleexplorer @abuley34 thanks guys!
    2. Austin Buley 0
Man what a great day!!! Those big ones will come if you keep catching them like that!
    3. Sean Wilms 0
@Reel_Smooth true. I'll probably be out next week anyway again to see
    4. Reel_Smooth 0
Very true! But they're running small right now anyways. Just a matter of time before the big girls move in.
    5. Sean Wilms 0
@Reel_Smooth and you couldn't have been more right. Just wish it wasn't so tough to get a keeper, I guess that only makes them even more awarding when I ...more finally get one
    6. Reel_Smooth 0
Told you once you hit the first one it will all fall into place. Your doing great! 👍🏽👍🏽
    7. Reel_Smooth 0
      Killed it!
    8. Sean Wilms 0
      Thanks @h180

      Cool pictures, nice fish!
    10. Sean Wilms 0
Hoping the sandy bottom or bumping rocks near docks, rockwalls, and oyster beds, they didn't like the long pauses today so a constantly swimming jig did the ...more best, crabs were painfully thick,
    11. Sean Wilms 0
Today seemed to be after a keeper flounder but from what I could see only shorts were caught. Still a fun day, lots of takes, missed a few to heads hakes but no ...more real heart breakers. We caught them

Hit rudee for the first time in a while, took a friend with me who wanted me to show him the ropes. Bites were slow for all species but the flounder so we focused ...more on them. Moment of the day is when we doubled up to two large keeper flounder at the same time, very fun, his biggest flounder and my third biggest at the same time. We also caught several other smaller flatfish and one trout. Working

      Thanks a bunch man @GunnerNewberry
    2. Gunner Newberry 0
Fresh flounder over store bought any day! Respect for releasing but I'd never buy fish from a grocery store. Killer info super detailed and good stuff teaching ...more a buddy! Great blert!!
    3. Drew72 0
I hear you, gave you some thumbs up last night 😉
    4. Sean Wilms 0
@abuley34 @Drew72 I agree they are tasty but I can feel good about releasing a nice fish and still go but some flounder at the store without having to kill or clean ...more the fish
    5. Sean Wilms 0
@basshunter19 thanks man. @ReelGame thanks man, was a fun day for sure
    6. ReelGame Saucedo 0
      GREAT INFO nice Flatties
    7. Drew72 0
      Understood 👍👍
    8. Austin Buley 0
Man I don't think I could bring myself to throw keeper flounder back they just taste too dang good!
    9. basshunter19 0
      Nice
    10. Sean Wilms 0
@Drew72 no sir these flatfish went free. Didn't have a stringer or ice or feel like cleaning them. Besides there's just something that feels good about releasing ...more a fish that otherwise wouldn't be
    11. Drew72 0
You got it done! Fish tacos for supper?
    12. Sean Wilms 0
Left on the bottom for longer then a few seconds. Air temp was 84, water temp in mid 70s, NE wind, incoming tide, scattered thunderclouds, lots of small mudminnows ...more and menhaden around
    13. Sean Wilms 0
Man-made structure like docks and rockwalls was the only thing that produced. Hopping the gulp along the bottom with frequent pauses. Crabs were very thick, they ...more quickly destroyed any bait or lure

  8. Details: Gulf Flounder

Got my first set of flatfish of the year. Nothing else was biting at all not even the bluefish. So I decided I was not getting skunked and I was going to at least ...more get something. So I put myself upwind of a sandy slope and started bouncing the gulp of the bottom. Got two great thumps, both of which I opened the bail and let them take before setting and they were both decent sized flounders. Couldnt

    1. H180 1 0
      Cool fish! @seaturtles
    2. Sean Wilms 0
If I brought a cooler is what I meant. The "i" and the "u" are close together on the keypad @ScottB
    3. Sean Wilms 0
That's a shame :( I would have to today if u brought a cooler but the flounder were close to legal size @ScottB
    4. Scott B 0
Well, we caught nothing but bait. Came home with an empty cooler.
    5. Sean Wilms 0
@ScottB I hear ya. Hoping to hit the surf or pier next weekend to catch some of those...then use them as bait for something bigger
    6. Scott B 0
No. Most catches had FishBites either singly or in combination with other baits. Last week, they wanted Nikko. Today FishBites worked better, but still a challenge.
    7. Sean Wilms 0
Tell me about man. I only had two bites all day. I saw a huge bluefish swim buy but it was uninterested in anything. We're all your croaker on Nikko lures @ScottB ...more ?
    8. Scott B 0
It was tough fishing today. We ended up with a decent number of croaker, but every catch was small and took a lot of effort to get.
    9. Sean Wilms 0
@TaylorG I've never tried mudminnows specifically simply because all the good baitshops that sell them are to far away, but I've used plenty of baits like ...more squid and mullet
    10. Taylor Glover 0
cool ive never caught a flounder...ever use mud minnows i hear they love em?
    11. Sean Wilms 0
Get anything else at all but a beautiful day and a couple of flatfish always leaves me happy. 83 air temp, water temp in mid 60s, some baitfish around, little action, ...more only two takes, wind was tough

  9. Details: Blue Fish

Wanted to try the inlet again today, was hoping to locate a flounder or redfish but couldn't find them. I did find a pocket in the back of the inlet after hours ...more of nothing and getting soaked in the rain, that was full of snapper blues eager to hit but not easy too hook. Before I had to call it from being hungry I caught several little fun fighting blues and one random 8" striped bass.

    1. Sean Wilms 0
Ya they'll pretty much eat anything, I love catching them, they fight really good for their size. Just try putting out a chunk of spot, they'll hit it immediately ...more @tkotattoos
    2. Tim Knecht 0
Man those things!! Had a spot last summer where I got on a school and they were hammering my lure non stop...but took me 45mins to get the hook in one haha!
    3. Chris Skinner 0
      Haha amen to that!
    4. Sean Wilms 0
@Cowboy713 as long as it's these blues and not the ones I need to sing about then it's good
    5. Chris Skinner 0
Ain't nothin wrong with catchin a few blues!
    6. Sean Wilms 0
@GunnerNewberry I wish, Sharks wont be up here for at least another month or so
    7. Gunner Newberry 0
      Shark bait!
    8. Sean Wilms 0
Isolated thunderstorms, varied from clear skies to pouring rain, low to incoming tide, some baitfish around but not much, water temp in mid 60s, 8mph SW wind, water ...more vis low from rain,

  10. Details: Blue Fish

Tried Rudee again today with my neighbor but the bite was nearly non-existing again. I was the only one of 3 dozen or so boaters to catch something while we were ...more out there, it was just dead. Couldn't find any baitfish anywhere and even this blue had an empty stomach (my neighbor took him home to eat). Hit hit bouncing the sweetened bucktail off the bottom in about 10 FOW near an oyster bed, only

    1. Sean Wilms 0
For sure. Haven't hit the surf in a while, I guess I'm due @Wallard
    2. Wallard 0
It would be great to see a lot of blues back in the ocean and bay @seaturtles
    3. Sean Wilms 0
@Wallard hopefully soon I'll have more than just one to post though
    4. Sean Wilms 0
@TaylorG try to squeeze it in everyday there's nice weather. Shouldn't have gone today for the amount of work I have but its worth loosing sleep over
    5. Wallard 0
It's great to see some blues caught once again. @seaturtles
    6. Taylor Glover 0
you fish every day or what? im jealous
    7. Sean Wilms 0
Bite I had too, at least it was a fun fighting 19" decent sized bluefish. 84 F air temp, water temp in low 60s, partly cloudy skies, 10 mph NW wind, rising ...more to high tide, water vis of about 4 feet,
