Out at Oppenheim this afternoon after work, fly fishing for Common Carp. But, there were no carp hits. Bullheads...Brown Bullheads instead as the evening wore on. ...more Bullheads...hitting flies. Just when I thought I've seen it all LOL. Still, they were fun and at least I didn't get skunked haha. Bullheads!!! 😂😛

  3. Details: Largemouth Bass with a Jointed bluegill swimbait

My pb at 6lbs 3ozs. Went to the pond for carp but ended up fishing for bass. I also caught a two pounder five minutes later

    1. Chuck LaBruna 0
Yeah, there's some nice bass in there. They're a bit tough to find and certainly far and few between.
  4. Details: Golden Rainbow Trout with a 8wt fly rod, 8f-wf fly line, sweet corn fly

Of course, a nice little Rainbow to sweeten the day, not to bad either. About 15-16", roughly. Last fish of the day before the rain started. Now I wish I would ...more hung out longer because the rain only lasted a half hour. Oh well, there will be more!

    1. Sam Aronica 0
      Any news 2019 on fish?
    2. Sean Wilms 0
stripe that normally runs there bodies
    3. Sean Wilms 0
i totally know what you mean, all the fish around me look like that because of the stained water, i just didnt realize the lateral line on a rainbow was pink too, ...more i just thought it was because of the
    4. Chuck LaBruna 0
@seaturtles Yeah, it's kind of a side effect when they live in muddy water. Not much sun gets through to keep the colors vivid. It does give them a different ...more appearance though
    5. Sean Wilms 0
the lateral line on that fish is a bright pink, thats pretty cool

  5. Details: Golden Rainbow Trout with a 8wt fly rod, 8f-wf line, 9' leader, sweet corn fly

Surprise Rainbow Trout! Actually, this is one of two I caught. The other was a little bigger and slipped out of the net as I was getting ready for a quick pic. Just ...more a little guy, was virtually nothing on the 8wt haha. The Sweet Corn Fly has been the ticket all day!!!

    1. Chuck LaBruna 0
Thanks man, I appreciate it. This is the smaller of the two Rainbows I caught. Couldn't get a pic of the bigger one. Nice surprise, considering I thought the ...more trout were already gone from the pond
    2. USMC2013 0
      Pretty rainbow brother. @wyldechylde77

  6. Details: Golden Shiner with a 8wt fly rod, 8f-wf line, 9' 0x leader, sweet corn imitation fly

Was up at Oppenheim again today, still after Carp on the fly rod. Air temp 73°, water stained to muddy. Feelin good about it, actually saw puffs of mud from ...more the water where carp were feeding. Went with my Corn flies, on the bottom. This big Golden Shiner was the first to take it. (Sorry about the focus. Just got the iPhone 5S yesterday and still getting used to it)

    1. Chuck LaBruna 0
Quick note: I made sure the dorsal fin was up in the picture to show that it is indeed a huge Golden Shiner. It is attached all the way down, difference between ...more them and Euro Roach and Rudd.
  7. Details: Golden Shiner with a 8wt fly rod, 8f-wf line, 0x leader, sweet corn imitation fly

Fly fishing for Carp today, lost 2 big boys! One was a MONSTER, hit a scud. Rolled on the surface and hook popped out 😞. 2nd, I strip-set the hook and as soon as ...more I did he dove hard and snapped the fly right off. 😞 But, I caught this stupid Golden Shiner lol, so wasn't a total loss HAHA. Nice size though

    1. Chuck LaBruna 0
      @bad_bass_brandon A fly rod and reel. 😝😝 I'm just kidding, bud. It's a Cabela's Wind River combo, 4 pc, 9' 8wt setup. Line is 8wt f-wf
    2. bad_bass_brandon 0
What kind of rod and reel is that
    3. Lucas McQuiston 0
It is a good looking fish tho!
    4. Chuck LaBruna 0
@lainedillard It's cool, bro. I also checked it to see if it was a Golden-Rudd Hybrid, as that happens too, but all signs show it is just a large GS. Only in ...more NY, right? LOL 😝
    5. Laine Dillard 0
Ok I wasn't 100% sure but I figured I'd throw the possibility out there nice catch
    6. Chuck LaBruna 0
@lainedillard Also, it's mouth is turned upward, unlike the Roach which faces downward.
    7. Chuck LaBruna 0
      @lainedillard Also,
    8. Chuck LaBruna 0
..the telltale sign of no scales on the underbelly by the keel, between the pectoral fins and and anal opening. Goldens are also used as pond fish. This one here ...more is at it's max size. 😉
    9. Chuck LaBruna 0
@lainedillard No, it's a Golden Shiner bud. A) we have no Euro roach here in NY, and B) I also thought it was a Rudd (closely related to both), but it's ...more back was a light shade of olive, and it had..
    10. Laine Dillard 0
I think that's a European roach golden shiners aren't usually that silver and I have never seen one with red fins they are usually more orange
    11. atxflyfishing 0
Still good to hook up! Next time, right?
    12. Chuck LaBruna 0
@colby12 I guess it never even dawned on me due to the sting of losing those two carp
    13. Chuck LaBruna 0
@colby12 You know what? You are right hahaha!!! It IS the first one on my own fly LMAO! Nice! I guess this stupid shiner has some significance after all! Didn't ...more even think about that!
    14. Colby Teall 0
Congrats! Is that the first one on one u tied or have u caught others?
    15. Chuck LaBruna 0
@colby12 Yes, I tied it, and thanks bud. @FlyWhiteGuy87 Must be something in the air! Let's get DETERMINED!! LOL! @MainFishing The Sweet Corn pattern I used ...more is one I came up with. I'll tag you in it.
    16. MainFishing 0
Where could I get a corn fly?
    17. TennesseeTroutboy 0
That's the biggest shiner I've ever seen
    18. Austin Austin 0
Cool fish man! I lost two carp and two gar yesterday myself 👎
    19. Colby Teall 0
Did u tie the fly? Great fish btw
    20. Chuck LaBruna 0
@CalvinFease Technically, it's a Rudd. It's in the shiner family and is very closely related to the Golden Shiner (as you can see). The deep red fins give ...more it away. Pretty fish, but basically bait LOL
    21. Calvin Fease 0
I'm not aware of any golden shiners anywhere near me, so I'd consider that a prize catch! I don't think I've even seen a golden shiner.

  8. Details: Golden Rainbow Trout with a red worm

Finally! First fish of the year! Only one caught, so by all rights is was a crap day, but I don't care because the monkey's off my back. Lil stocker, 'bout ...more 15"

    1. Chuck LaBruna 0
@matt Hey no problem bro! I thought you forgot, honestly hahaha. I went in a stuck the pin at the pond, all good now. Much appreciated bud!!
    2. Matt Dobson 0
I added Oppenheimer man! Sorry for the delay. Can you check the pin location in the map, make sure I got it right?
    3. Donald Myers 0
      Nice!
    4. Chuck LaBruna 0
@Cowboy713 Thanks man, I appreciate it bro
    5. Chris Skinner 0
It's not added yet, but I'll get it on there
    6. Chris Skinner 0
      I'll check it out bud
    7. Chuck LaBruna 0
@Cowboy713 Do you know if Oppenheim Park Pond was added yet? I had asked @matt , but I think he may have forgotten or just been busy. No prob either way of course
    8. 1lastkast 0
      @wyldechylde77 shoots, go get um!!!!
    9. Chuck LaBruna 0
Hopefully I'll have something to post later haha
    10. Chuck LaBruna 0
@1lastkast Actually goin out in a little while 😄 My cousin called to see if I wanted to hit up Tifft Nature Preserve with the ultralights. Mostly panfish, but there ...more are decent bass and pike in there.
    11. 1lastkast 0
Big fish in a small pond!!! Good luck on your next outing! Looking forward to seeing how it goes.
    12. 1lastkast 0
Sometimes I think getting a fishing trip together with the friends is harder than catching fish, lol. I love bush wacking creeks but it's not for everyone. :/
    13. 1lastkast 0
@wyldechylde77 I love F&S since young I know what you mean. Wish I joined F.S. Sooner. It's nice that they want to be the best and are doing a good job of ...more it!
    14. Chuck LaBruna 0
Made equally harder when everyone around you always has excuses to break fishing plans, or thinks they are too good for lighter fishing (such as ponds, small creeks, ...more etc). Happens to me a lot.
    15. Chuck LaBruna 0
..the kids take over. Obviously, we don't have that issue here. These guys care about their app and deal with problems quickly. Haha, yeah the Musky on a fly ...more is gonna be a tough one to accomplish
    16. Chuck LaBruna 0
@1lastkast Ah, ok! Yes I remember you by your real name now. It's a shame CB went down the way it did, especially since it was ran by F&S. But, that's ...more what happens when there is no moderation and..
    17. 1lastkast 0
@wyldechylde77 yeah it did and fast, Pretty sure I just used my name Gage Wilson. As for the Musky, from what I hear that's an accomplishment! Pretty sure you ...more got the arsenal for the job! 😎
    18. Chuck LaBruna 0
..catch a 6-7 lb Smallmouth, fish in the Finger Lakes region, etc. Adds a nice dimension to the sport, though a personal one. And thanks for the kind words, I'm ...more just a guy who loves to fish 😉
    19. Chuck LaBruna 0
@1lastkast Who were you on CatchBook? Glad you migrated here instead, that app went to H E L L. Oh yeah, I got the bar set kinda high, we'll see if I can accomplish ...more some. For example, Musky on a fly..
    20. 1lastkast 0
@wyldechylde77 I'm sure it will be, I remember your fish from catchbook. You got the skill to slay fish! Hope your goals are set high. ;)
    21. Chuck LaBruna 0
@1lastkast Thanks bro! As said, may be a small lil Rainbow, but I'll take it haha! Got a few goals set for this year, and I hope it is a productive year!
    22. 1lastkast 0
Congrats on the first of many fish of 2014!!
    23. Colby Teall 0
No problem. I can't wait to c the giant fish u catch with them. 😀
    24. Chuck LaBruna 0
@colby12 Thanks bud, means a lot to me. Much appreciated 👍
    25. Colby Teall 0
There's no doubt that you'll catch one on them. There awesome.
    26. Chuck LaBruna 0
@colby12 Not yet, haven't had the opportunity to use em. I had a few with me today, but as I said its hard to cast a fly rod where I was fishing. I'll catch ...more some on my flies, I'm confident 😉
    27. Colby Teall 0
Oh. Have u caught any on the ones u tied.
    28. Chuck LaBruna 0
@matt Thanks bro! Will update when it's up! @colby12 Live red worm. I had my 5/6wt fly rod with me, but it's really hard to use there.
    29. Colby Teall 0
Was it a live red worm or like a San Juan worm.
    30. Matt Dobson 0
      Of course. I'll add it!
    31. Chuck LaBruna 0
@MulletHead @matt @bassinboy01 is it possible to add Oppenheim Park Pond to the list?

  9. Details: Golden Rainbow Trout with a redworm

Decent rainbow, hit on a redworm. Not too bad for only fishing for an hour

    1. allenford 0
      Nice trout man.
  10. Details: Brown Trout with a Redworm

First non-sea-run Brown Trout. Only took 20 years lol. Good, hard fighter on light tackle. About 16-17".
