  8. Hope some one out there is catching some fish! I'm stuck in my shop grinding away.

    1. Scott B 0
Cool! I hope to see some photos.
    2. excellsiorlures 0
Let you know how the work! @ScottB
    3. excellsiorlures 0
Oak is good but the pores are big sometimes and swell when sealed. Curious about all the other ones though. Maple is great because it hard but easy to work with. ...more Will try some of the others though. Il
    4. Scott B 0
good, too. Locust might be worth a try if you can get some...it dries pretty well and not prone to cracking.
    5. Scott B 0
Maple is probably a good choice, certainly from the smooth transition from early wood to late wood making it easier to get a consistently smooth surface. I think ...more dogwood, birch, muscle wood would be
    6. Scott B 0
Oaks & hickory probably too dramatic a change in densities between early & latewood to process smoothly. I've never worked muscle wood, but am curious. ...more Oh I forgot birch, too.
    7. Scott B 0
Black locust, dogwood, muscle wood, osage orange, hickory, oaks. Of these, black locust has smaller volumetric shrinkage. Not sure about osage orange. Dogwood is ...more dense, but probably least stable. ...
    8. excellsiorlures 0
@ScottB I always like experimenting with new woods
    9. excellsiorlures 0
Yeah I do process my own wood. I do have to go through many steps to make it water tight but it does work. What other woods are as dense ?
    10. Scott B 0
Oh I can see now. My real specialty is actually wood. Is waterproofing an issue? There's several species more dense than maple, but less stable & tougher ...more to find, unless you process the wood yourself.
    11. excellsiorlures 0
      @ScottB
    12. excellsiorlures 0
So I use a much harder more dense wood. I like maple wood. That is what all of these are made of.
    13. excellsiorlures 0
I use a ton of different woods. These are sinking baits
    14. Scott B 0
What species of wood do you use?
