First drum ever! Woohoo! Not a monster, but man did he fight. Conditions were really nice, 10mph wind and flat water. Crab wasn't working so I decided to put shrimp on my line because that's what everyone else was catching them on and boom! Happy Easter everyone, Jesus Christ has risen!

:o @j_reyes what am I doing wrong? Lol
    13. j_reyes 0
      I use the 10' 20-50lb class heavy
    14. j_reyes 0
yeah I can get to my braid backin on a good cast I have about 90-100yds of topshot too

      Thanks @j_reyes @Surf_Monkey
    16. Surf_Monkey 0
Also, since your gonna use a heavier surf weight, try doubling up your line about 10-15' as a shock leader. Helps to not break the line with all that weight
    17. Surf_Monkey 0
I used to have a 9' FTU Hvy action & threw an 8oz surf weight plus bait. That rod can take it. Once you get it balanced out, you'll be able to get more ...more distance.
    18. j_reyes 0
on and it depends on how you have it spooled too
    19. j_reyes 0
oh it all depends I throw 5oz on my sx on my mxl I throw anywhere from 6-8oz.

I already use 5 oz plus a large bait. How heavy should I make my sinker?
    22. j_reyes 0
use a heavier weight to get a better cast

need to make it between the guts. 40 yards is about a cast standing on the first bar going into the second gut.
    31. Jacob Breaux 0
Don't get discouraged by other people saying they cast 100+ yards. I think a lot of them are just bs'ing up a number. Lol. You only need to be able to cast ...more as far as you need to. In the surf, just
