After catching hardhead after hardhead, (about 12) I got a hit that seemed like yet another hardhead. Went to set the hook, and it started taking line. After a looooong fight, (I was using my lightest setup, Berkeley Cherrywood HD Rod, Med-Heavy/Lew's Speed Spool) we landed this guy on the pier. 30 lbs and my first big ugly! Took a lot of work but he was well worth it, back into the water he went.
