Honestly @Jacob_newton the gear you have is perfect for what you want to do. The only thing you really have to do is really learn your gear. I would say just go ...more get someone to build you an 8'-9' rod

oh yeah @Reel_Smooth way too much @bassinboy01

@bassinboy01 @ReelGame you guys know exactly who he is talkin about. That overkill green rod for Morgan's point. Lol!!

5oz is all you need. @bassinboy01 is right, its all about the weight set. When a barge passes take off the fish alarm and tighten the line. I promise that line will ...more only move when a fish hits it

Yup we 5oz spider weights with no problem there at MP @Jacob_newton i can reach the channel with my Prevail 10' with a Avet MXL the undertow is no problem

@Reel_Smooth @ReelGame and myself throw 5s at the point and never have problems. It's all about getting that weight set
    9. Jacob Breaux 0
Imo, 12oz is way overkill unless you're yakking out shark baits in heavy current

Can't remember how long the butt is off the top of my head. Bro we use 5oz and never have any problem with any barges or tankers moving out weights. Just gotta ...more set the spider weight correctly

I think the guys at morgans were using a cut down 10ft FTU blank too
    12. Jacob_newton 0
How long did you make the butt of your rod?
    13. Jacob_newton 0
Just met some guys at morgans who were throwing that weight and the barges were hardley moving it. And they were throwing it a good distance. @bassinboy01

9' and 12oz?! You could cut down a 10' heavy FTU but not sure about 12+bait. Why so short for so much weight?
