    Another about 3' pike any advice how to land hold measure these monsters? I left him on the ground pulled the hook and he bolted off!

      Grab them by the gill plates and the tail. GRAB THEM LIKE YOU MEAN IT. Never grab a fish by the gills unless your planning in keeping them.

      You can either pin them behind the head or hold the front part of their gills. The first one is preferable, but it won't work on anything much over 36".
