The white bass are sending the scouts up the feeder creeks to Lake Springfield, got about a dozen, mostly small males but a couple 1.5 pounders. Within the next ...more couple of weeks the spawning frenzy will start in earnest and you might be catching two at a time!

Exhausting is right, some years I got creative, two lures, catching two and three at a time. Sometimes the back gets sore I sit and cast, sometimes I experiment ...more with homemade lures etc. on bad years - very few..... Ounce by ounce those whites put up a heck of a fight. The rule of thumb is, "when the lilacs blo, the white bass are biting". My rule of thumb is water temp at 55+ with a good current.

Went to Florida's Harris Chain in the first week of Feb. 2015. Very nice chain, probably did more exploring than fishing. Overwhelmed by all the open water in ...more mid-winter. Did not catch the monsters we were looking for but there were plenty of 2-4 lbers.

Extremely hot and humid day. Not a bite all day. Heading toward the ramp to call it a day and we decided to throw one more cast right across from the ramp. Tossed ...more a short cast parallel to shore and when the rubber worm got close to the bottom-BOOM, must of floated right next to the lunker. He hit it hard, nice fight. Salvaged the day on the last cast.

Many just under 10 inches but a couple of keeper size but we threw them back-big females.

Thanks Dan. Went to Sangchris on Monday, caught a bunch (40+) of "almost" 10 inchers and about 5 or 6 mini lg. mouth. Only a few 10 inch plus female crappies, ...more which we threw back for another day. We went to the west arm since most of the full parking lot must have been at the warm arm. Water was a few degrees cooler in the west, 56-59 dgrees, while the east arm was 60-63 degrees.
