  4. Details: Rock Bass with a Artificial grub

Can i get a fish id on this? Im not sure exactly but i think rock bass? I know the picture isnt great. I dont think there was any bass in this body of water at least ...more this section between two dams

    1. jakewade 0
      Definitely a bluegill
    2. Chuck LaBruna 0
...if it looks like what you saw with your eyes instead of the darker light of the camera. Cool?
    3. Chuck LaBruna 0
I can save you a little time actually, though I know..take any opportunity to fish LOL, but I'll tag you in a blert I have that shows a Bluegill at that same ...more angle but better light. You tell me..
    4. trappingtime0 0
@wyldechylde77 haha alright i guess ill just have to go catch another and get a better picture then
    5. Chuck LaBruna 0
..that angle, I can tell its a Bluegill. Mouth size, colors on the breast and body, gill plate and fin borders (or lack of) etc. It is a Bluegill, but if you don't ...more wanna believe me, no problem. 😉
    6. Chuck LaBruna 0
Well, I can see very clearly based on a lot of features that it is in fact a Bluegill. Not to mention the fact that I have worked with and caught thousands through ...more the years (I'm 37). Even from..
    7. MusicCityBass 0
@ChrisA yeah your right. Warmouth is in the genus Lepomis and Rock Bass is in the genus Ambloplites. Both are sunfish
    8. trappingtime0 0
And that blueish color on the gill wasnt really as blue as it looks in the picture
    9. trappingtime0 0
@wyldechylde77 i dont think its bluegill this picture does t really shot the colors very well i have caught a few bluegills and they look a lot different from this ...more one they this one was a lot greener
    10. Chuck LaBruna 0
@ChrisA Yes sir. Been happening a lot around FS lately haha.
    11. ChrisA 0
@wyldechylde77 thanks for the confirmation. I was pretty positive it was a bluegill. Sometimes when you look at sunfish for too long you can over think it.
    12. Chuck LaBruna 0
...species. The closest species to a Rock Bass is the Shadow Bass, which is basically the southern equivalent of Rock Bass. Warmouth, though also panfish, are entirely ...more different altogether. 😉
    13. Chuck LaBruna 0
@ChrisA @hunter_nessen @SwampMafia Hey guys, it's a Bluegill. I can see the orange-yellow underbelly and the gill colorations. @MusicCityBass Rock Bass and ...more Warmouth are two completely different...
    14. ChrisA 0
@hunter_nessen I agree. I'm leaning more towards bluegill the more I look at it. @wyldechylde77 can help us ID it.
    15. ChrisA 0
@MusicCityBass a rock bass and a war mouth are both sunfish. They're still two different species though.
    16. hunter_nessen 0
No doubt it's either a greeny or a blue gill it's obviously one of the two.
    17. Swamp Mafia 0
Green sunfish have yellow and or orange on their lower fins. Did it have a mouth that was larger than a bluegill? Bigger as in double or triple the size?
    18. trappingtime0 0
Now that i just looked up green sunfish im guessing thats what it was. I didnt even know that was a species of fish until now!
    19. trappingtime0 0
Sorry the picture isnt great the sun was making it difficult to get a good pic. I also caught another one 75 yards away about the same size
    20. trappingtime0 0
I pulled it in and it looked like a huge pumpkin seed but i know its not it is greenish and had large fins and big spines
    21. MusicCityBass 0
@ChrisA i know a rock bass as a panfish. Are you talking about a striper?
    22. ChrisA 0
@MusicCityBass war mouth and rock bass are two different types of fish. This fish is definitely neither a rock bass or war mouth. From the picture it looks like ...more a green sunfish.
    23. MusicCityBass 0
@Dreed97 @hunter_nessen warmouth and rock bass are the same thing. Thats either a rock bass/warmouth or a green sunfish. Its hard to tell from that angle
    24. Maxrealtree 0
Yeah definitely not a rock bass. I'm thinking it's some type of sunfish
    25. hunter_nessen 0
I agree with @Dreed97 definitely not a rock, it looks like a sunny
    26. Colby Teall 0
      @SwampMafia
    27. Dreed97 0
Maybe a war mouth? Or some type of sunfish. But it's not a rock bass.
