Having someone to kayak with just makes it that much more fun, even if you don't catch fish! Makes me want someone to fish with

    1. ChrisA 0
Some days the bass are just in the mood to chase it down and slam it. I love those kind of days.
    2. David Fairchild 0

  5. Details: Largemouth Bass with a Zoom Zhog n 4" Zoom finesse in WM Candy

84 degrees partly cloudy and 10-12 mph winds. See the Brim beds? These guys hang out in the first drop off/ weed line just waiting on a Brim to wander too far out. ...more I just put a 1/4 oz weight on to get it down quicker. Hellllloooo ZHog!!! Caught 8 Thursday. 5 keeps, one popcorn n 2 overs. Tried for brim with no success in the heat of the day, then back to my 7'MH Baitcast. 2 on shakey head finesse

  6. Details: Largemouth Bass with a 4" Zoom Finesse in wm candy/6lb Trilene XL mono

82 degrees, partly cloudy n windy. Stuck her In 8 fow in a cut off weed line drop off! She hit it and dropped it. I kept shakin and she sucked it up and ran. I was ...more surprised I got her over the weeds. Lovin my new Skeet Reese Wright McGill 7'2" shaky head rod. My hook ratio has been phenomenal on this rod. 1/16oz Jig head with 2/0 Gamagatsu hook. 6lb test is scary! Lol

    1. SSNoah 0
Good stuff man! Way to geaux!
  7. Details: Bluegill Sunfish with a live red wiggler

Fly rod with live bait! I think this may be a young Coppernose Bluegill. Striping is really faint. It hit it like a Mack Truck! Caught 20 + today and 8 bass. Largest ...more bass 5lbr that Blake caught @bassnman84 Bam! Caught a couple of em on brown cone head wooly booger #10

    1. David Fairchild 0
Alright. Sounds like some ideas to try. Thanks!
    2. dillon juarez 0
Man that's weird also I use an Orvis brim reaper it works good for them also
    3. David Fairchild 0
@flybob Thanks for the tip. I can throw a cricket or wooly booger in the bed, they just swim out, come right back in and ignore the fly! Even the live worms!!!
    4. dillon juarez 0
Nice try some sowbug nymphs they are magic when bluegill are spawning
    5. David Fairchild 0
@wyldechylde77 Cool. I was wondering if there was a specific fly for bedding fish. Thanks
    6. Chuck LaBruna 0
Luckily, I got just the ticket for ya 😉 San Juan Worms. I'll tag you in my blerts of ones that I've tied. Easy as heck, bud 😉
    7. David Fairchild 0
That's why we went to red wigglers. These guys get lockjaw when on the bed. I would rather fish for a bass on the bed than a brim any day. Maybe I just don't ...more have the right fly figured out yet!
    8. David Fairchild 0
@lainedillard @wyldechylde77 Thanks gang. It definitely has a band across its forehead n cheek area. Water was not real muddy but she might have been out in the ...more grass. We struggled getting bites so...
    9. Chuck LaBruna 0
Best way to identify a Coppernose is to look for the copperish band across it's forehead. Live bait on the fly rod, huh? Haha, I've done it myself. A bit ...more tough to cast, but doable. Nice job bud!
    10. Laine Dillard 0
Coppernose is right looks like maybe if it was in middy water or something mad it's colors fade
    11. David Fairchild 0
@lainedillard can you help on ID. Coppernose is closest pic I could get to for comparison

  8. Details: Largemouth Bass with a Olive Wooly Booger/Green Flash

Partly cloudy day, winds up to 20mph!!! Argh. I put the fly rod up and finished the day with a 7'MH Casing rod!!! A little slow for 7L. 5 sunfish and 7 bass. ...more 6hrs fishing. Also used Zoom ZHog and SuperFluke in watermelon candy

    1. David Fairchild 0
@wyldechylde77 I've been studying some video. I will have to check Orvis out. I had one guy tell me when the wind is to his back, he throws a loop up and it ...more catches the wind. Challenging! Thanks.
    2. Chuck LaBruna 0
Yeah, it's tough to cast flies in the wind. I try to position myself so I cast with the wind, or I cast low, like under the wind. Check out Orvis.com for some ...more pointers on how to cast in the wind 😉
    3. David Fairchild 0
All in all, not a bad day considering weather.
    4. David Fairchild 0
@wyldechylde77 Lol! Yeah, I've heard of tying a fly behind a floating Rapala too! Now that's old school! No, this was on my new fly rod. I had to put it ...more up at 1:00 today. Way too windy.
    5. Chuck LaBruna 0
Was that bass on the fly rod or casting rod? I assume fly, but I've seen people use flies, woolly buggers in particular, tied T- or C-rigged, as jigs and just ...more drag em along.

  9. Details: Bluegill Sunfish with a grand hopper

Yesterday got to try out my new fly rod. Wasn't too great a day to fly though. High winds made it tough! Good news is, with this 80 degree weather they are moving ...more in on beds. Only caught two, both nice size.

    1. David Fairchild 0
@wyldechylde77 thanks man. I will post my progress or lack there of! Lol Looking forward to something a little different. We have some huge Coppernose Bluegill at ...more our club. I can't wait get one on!
    2. Chuck LaBruna 0
Best move I ever made was taking up fly fishing in addition to spinning and casting setups. Keeps things interesting and enjoyable. Who knows? Maybe you'll decide ...more you wanna try tying your own flies!
    3. Chuck LaBruna 0
Oh yeah, catching bluegills and bass on a fly rod is lots of fun and great practice. I hope to see some awesome blerts from your trout trip when it happens, and ...more best of luck! Keep practicing!!
    4. David Fairchild 0
Trying to practice on the bluegill to get ready for a trout trip to the Smoky Mountains this summer. It's a good beginner set up. 9' 5 weight by Hendrix
    5. David Fairchild 0
@wyldechylde77 just first on this rod. I actually caught the FIRST FISH on my son in laws fly rod last week. OPS! Lol he wasn't having much luck n third cast, ...more BAM! So cool. I'm havin a blast on it.
    6. David Fairchild 0
Available. All you have to do is bring a battery n troll motor. Plus... I'm a east TX bass angler livin right square dab in the middle of Saltwater territory. ...more My son in law split the cost too.
    7. David Fairchild 0
@scott564 it is for my family. It's a lot of money but it's nice to have a place close when you work on call 24/7. I can't just run to Conroe whenever ...more I want! Lol it's great bank access and boats are
    8. scott564 0
Is it worth joining that fishing club? I use to be on it 3 or 4 years ago.
    9. Chuck LaBruna 0
Awesome!! Is that your first fish on a fly rod or just first on THAT fly rod?
