Cedar Bluff Reservoir Fishing Reports

Recently shared catches and fishing spots

  1. Crappie - Fair/Good - Vertically fishing minnows, small slab spoons, and jigs over the fish attractors and along timber lined drop-offs in 20-25 feet of water. ...more Walleye – Good - Fish have transitioned to a more typical late spring feeding pattern where they can be found frequenting points and drop-offs in 12 to 25 feet of water. Vertically fishing or drifting jigs tipped and other presentations involving nightcrawlers has been good. Anglers have reported catching good numbers of fish, but a larger portion of their catch is falling below the 18 inch minimum length limit so the number of fish harvested has decreased below what it was earlier this spring. It may be more effective to try fish imitating baits for larger walleye. White Bass/Wipers – Good -Anglers report catching fair numbers of whites trolling shad imitating crankbaits or vertically fishing white or silver slab spoons over points and drop-offs. Wipers continue to be caught casting topwater or shallow running crank baits over shallow secondary points in coves, and anglers have reported catching wipers drifting live bait over deeper drops and points. Many of the wipers reported are small and similar in size to many of the white bass caught so correct identification is necessary as the creel limit on wipers in 2 per day. Anglers may realize better success catching larger wipers by drifting live bait over deeper points and drop-offs. Report courtesy of Kansas Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

  2. (3 of 3) - Wipers should start showing up on shallow mainlake points where bucktail jigs and other shad imitating baits tend to work well. Report courtesy of www.kansasangler.com ...more and Zeiner’s Bass Shop.

  3. (2 of 3) - Fish shouldn't really begin feeding heavily until we get into late April or early May, but there will be some fish beginning to show up on well defined ...more points, drop-offs, and submerged roadbeds and parking lots. White bass/ wipers - Anglers were catching good numbers of whites and wipers in the sun warmed upper ends of coves prior to the onset of the recent cool spell we are experiencing. The fish may return to this pattern once we get back to a warming trend. However, the whites will begin to show up along the dam and mainlake points near the dam to spawn where they can be caught fishing various types of jigs.

  4. (1 of 3) - WATER TEMPERATURE- 48 degrees. SURFACE ELEVATION- 2121.76'----22.24 ft. below conservation. Crappies can still be caught vertically fishing jigs ...more and slab spoons over the fish attractors, but the fish have begun to scatter and transition into occupying shallow water for spawning. Fish can be tough to find during this transition period, but look for fish to stage over shallower drop-offs and points in coves. With a return of warmer weather it won't be long before fish start showing up in the shallows toward the western end of the reservoir. The Bluffs and Cove 4 are usually good areas to find crappie spawning early. Walleye - Spawning activity really began to slow down after this cool spell began about three weeks ago. There may still be some fish spawning along the dam, but overall the numbers should be pretty minimal by now.
