First time catching one of these.... What is it and can we eat it?

  I haven't tried it but I have heard to not get the filet wet it turns to a cotton ball is you do

  Yeah some people hit then but most throw then back since they give good fights when caught

  A lot of people consider them "trash fish" because they eat the baitfish so they throw them up on the bank. I'm not quite sure if it's a bowfin ...more or a snakehead but it looks more like a bowfin.

  Thanks @inlet_fisher99 ...we were trying rat l traps, frogs, flukes & hotdog was the only successful bait....can we eat this?
