Still in learning state, could any experienced angler tell me how to improve this leader? Length? Best circle hook? And I still don't know why we have to put those beads on the leader.Pier fishing~

    3. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@Texas_Slam yes it does. How easy u mean? Mine kink a little after I use it 5 times in the water
    4. Texas_Slam 0
Oh and does that stuff kink and crease. easy? @bassinboy01 @ReadyForThatBattle
    5. Texas_Slam 0
Thanks guys imma make some this week. @ReadyForThatBattle @bassinboy01
    6. Jacob Breaux 0
@Texas_Slam Yes get the round style. The other star-shaped kind won't crimp as well
    7. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@Texas_Slam btw the body shape of those weedeater lines come with many different shapes, don't know if it matters to u but some people suggest to get the round ...more shape like those fishing mono we use.
    8. Jacob Breaux 0
Yea 0.08" weedeater line is about the same as 400lb mono (2mm). I use both the weedeater line and 400lb mono
    9. ReadyForThatBattle 0
Weedeater leaders too. He might know more about it
    10. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@Texas_Slam so~ 0.08 weedeater would fit in BillFisher 2.2B sleeves. And yea these weedeaters r cool man, they come with many different colors, u can find em on ...more amazon. I think @bassinboy01 uses some
    11. Texas_Slam 0
Aright cool I'm gonna start using that stuff!
    12. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@Texas_Slam. It's rated 0.08 weedeater. I think that's about 400lb test mono? Or 300lb test? I'll tell u the size of the crimps when I get home I'm ...more outside
    13. Texas_Slam 0
What size? That stuff looks good and what size crimps?
    14. ReadyForThatBattle 0
Than fishing mono. I was afraid the reds might be leader shy from those red line so I put clear mono for the hook section. But people told me these bull reds don't ...more care idk that's what I heard
    15. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@Texas_Slam. That's trimming line bro or people say weedeater line. They r cheap and strong, people use them to cut grass and stuffs so they r build to be strong ...more and most important, they r way cheaper
    16. Texas_Slam 0
Where did you get that red mono!!!?!?!!!
    17. BIG_GAME_TACKLE 0
@ReadyForThatBattle no problem, that's what I target with my surf rods. So if you need help improving what you have I'll show you what other anglers showed ...more me over the years
    18. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@BIG_GAME_TACKLE thx bro. I'll let u know if I need some shark leader, now I'm just focusing on the smaller gamefish like drums and other stuffs except ...more big sharks but I'm sure in the future I will
    19. BIG_GAME_TACKLE 0
Hey bud if you still need help let me know no make and sell all kinds of leaders. I make to catch big yellow cats all the way to sharks
    20. baylen_smith15 0
Nah! Honestly I've heard a lot of stuff saying that the fish shy away from cable but it's never stopped me from catching!@ReadyForThatBattle
    21. ReadyForThatBattle 0
      @baylen_smith15 un breakable I mean.
    22. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@Texas_Slam thx body. Maybe u can show us how u make urs!
    23. ReadyForThatBattle 0
Maybe I worried too much? Idk. I only had few gafftops on that setup. But this is my first year fishing and I don't go out a lot... So I don't know lol
    24. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@baylen_smith15 yea i saw it already, it looks in breakable man, mine is 0.0.8" weedeater line, for the hook section I use 300lb clear mono because I was afraid ...more those drums might be leader shy? Or na
    25. Texas_Slam 0
      Nice rig.
    26. baylen_smith15 0
@ReadyForThatBattle I don't know if you saw or not already but there's a pic of my leader on there
    27. baylen_smith15 0
      Pillons**
    28. baylen_smith15 0
@ReadyForThatBattle I fish the same pier I use a 16-18/0 circle hook and use 600# steel cable so no breaking me on pillows
    29. bo_pierce 0
4/0-8/0 circle hook, 3 ounce weight for slow current or dead tides. 6 ounce for ripping current or rough tides
    30. ReadyForThatBattle 0
      @GunnerNewberry got it! ๐Ÿ‘Œ
    31. Gunner Newberry 0
I like a sliding weight for smaller fish because you are still connected directly to the bait and can feel any activity. Big bull reds won't toy with the bait ...more though so a fixed will be effective too.
    32. ReadyForThatBattle 0
I see. And thanks so much for the informations. I guess I'll just try both kinda rig? Lol. Thx again @SwampMafia !
    33. Swamp Mafia 0
Fixed/sliding to me is more personal preference. Both work! If you like to let the fish run with your bait, sliding may be the way to go as the fish does not feel ...more the weight when it takes the bait.
    34. ReadyForThatBattle 0
Thanks @SwampMafia and does fixed weight or sliding weight matters or? @GunnerNewberry learning something here, lol and it is invaluable
    35. Gunner Newberry 0
Your problem is the leader and circle hook. Just need a jig head and some soft plastics! Lol!! No man looks good to me. They've got you covered on info. +1 @SwampMafia ...more a file is invaluable.
    36. Swamp Mafia 0
Can cast, if your kayaking them out you can make them as long and heavy as you want.
    37. Swamp Mafia 0
For reds, I make my leaders about 2 foot +/- 6". If your in a sharky area a heavy mono leader above that will keep the tail from cutting your line. If your ...more casting the rigs make them as long as you
    38. ChasinTails904 0
      Mustad hooks are awesome
    39. ReadyForThatBattle 0
Thank you so much @SwampMafia and what about the length of the leader? R they critical?
    40. Swamp Mafia 0
80-120 lbs will be all you need for small sharks. Sharp hooks help a lot, so pick up a small file to clean up any dull hooks.
    41. Swamp Mafia 0
Most of the time I have my weight fixed and not sliding. Steel is not required for reds, but if you want to catch the occasional shark they are worth it. Cable or ...more single strand should work fine 80-120
    42. Swamp Mafia 0
I don't use a bunch of colored beads, but I have been "told" they protect crimps/knots, I'm not sure why people think they need protection. Circles ...more work great, mustad 11/0 and larger and others 5/0+
    43. ReadyForThatBattle 0
Thanks so much @bassinboy01 I'll make another one with coated wire to see how it work for the next trip๐Ÿ‘
    44. Jacob Breaux 0
      *not 100% sure*
    45. Jacob Breaux 0
I think the beads are to protect the crimps from the sliding weight, but I'm 100% sure
    46. Jacob Breaux 0
past few times to the salt. The guys mentioned above have way more experience than me and can help you more
    47. Jacob Breaux 0
I use a 12/0 circle hook. Either mustad or lazer sharp. Make sure there's a fairly large gap between the hook point and shank as the baits you'll use are ...more pretty large. This is just what I've used
    48. Jacob Breaux 0
That rig looks good to me!! I just have one line about 3' (either coated wire or weed water line) and a single crimp about halfway to stop the spider weight ...more from sliding the whole length.
    49. Makz Jaramillo 0
Not sure about the beads. That's a question that @MulletHead @SwampMafia @matt or @GunnerNewberry might be able to answer.
    50. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@makzymos thank u very much! And what about the length? And why put beads on this rig? Lol, just curious
    51. Makz Jaramillo 0
Looks good to me. Similar to the weedeater line rig that @bassinboy01 has on one of his pier/surf setups. Might change that heavy mono leader section to wire if ...more fishing for toothy critters (sharks)
    52. ReadyForThatBattle 0
@sjohn2012 Thx for the info. But I'm fishing for bullreds and try to catch some nice size sharks, does 5/0 work well? What brand of hook is that? I'm currently ...more using 10/0 mustad Demond circle
    53. ChasinTails904 0
      I use 5/0
