Branson: ...more Fishing guides watched fish move off and back on the beds over the past week, the cold front that brought storms to the north and south of the area backed fish off the beds for a couple of days but by the weekend numerous males could be found on beds waiting to spawn. The best sight fishing baits this past week have been Tightlines UV finesse worms in in UV green red flake on a Jewel 3/16 oz. Squirrel head or a Tightlines tube on a Bass Pro ¼ oz Zeka rig. If you are not interested in sight fishing, Jewel spider jigs, Squirrel heads and split shot rigs are still producing on secondary points near the mouth of spawning coves.
Kimberling City: Definitely a better sight fishing bite in the Kimberling City area. Branson fishing guides are targeting fish on beds in most of the larger creek arms with the same baits as in the dam area. Better fish have been spawning a little deeper so look for beds around seven feet deep to hold larger males that are locked on the nest. There are still fish to be caught on secondary points close to spawning areas as well; Squirrel heads, UV Tubes and split shot rigs have al bee effective ways to put numbers and quality in the boat.
James River: Branson fishing guides have been all over the spawn in the James for most of the week, fish in the stained water seem to be a little further along and the cold front didn’t seem to move them off like it did on the lower end. UV baits are still top performers in the dirty water look for fish to be bedded up close to rook or rock cover in spawning coves. Early and late there has been a topwater bite starting in the James as well, watch for surfacing fish and throw spooks, Sammies and red fins.
White River: The sight fishing bite gets better the further you head up the White River; from Baxter to Shell knob it is similar to Kimberling City, above Shell Knob and into the Kings River there are several fish locked on in just about every cove and pocket. UV baits are dominate on beds here as well, watch how a fish reacts when you pitch a bait into a bed, there are aggressive fish in every cove so don’t spend a lot of time on ones that run off when a bait hits their nest. The best top water action on the lake has been in the Kings River especially above Viola to the state line. Watch for surfacing fish early and late to be successful.
