Will Kilburn 0Fishing with a fly rod! Not my usual, but lately there's a 45 minute period just before dark when the bass go shad bustin'. Better on cloudy days. That rod ...more never stuck the barb in-I just got lucky. Bait wasn't sized well to the rod-hit me in the back of the head on one cast. Supposed to be able to stand up in a pescador pilot, but I don't have the guts to try in January.

Rounded out the morning with this one. All good jumpers except that 1st one. I lost one early and didn’t want to be skunked. Not my normal morning.

Bass #2 of the morning. 6:45 AM. Also on a whopper plopper. Fishing 2-5 ft But seaweed within a foot of the surface.

1.52 lbs. 6:30 AM . He was long enough to be bigger. Guess all he could catch was a whopper plopper !

That's a longnose/spotted gar. We do not have any alligator gar in NC

Holy cow! What a great fight!! I have been trying to catch one on my fly rod. They are tough to get a hook up. Great catch!
