1. Lovely rainbow caught at Lake Valley Reservoir two weeks ago. This one was born here - not stocked. Look at how pretty and wide his tail is. The stockers here tend ...more to have rounded tails from growing up in cement ponds.

  4. This little bluegill isn't any longer than the spinner that he hit. Released him to grow up.

  5. No bait. The vicious little bastard gobbled a bare hook. I was able to release him.

  8. Yes you CAN catch fat trout in the Sierras midsummer. 19 August at Union Valley Reservoir. 3 Cutbows at dawn on powerbait and worms average 1.8 pounds each. Beautiful ...more day on the water at sunrise.

Hm interesting, it's amazing how different fisheries over time produce completely separate strands of fish. Cool though, thanks for the info, always like talking ...more to informed fishermen.

Sorry Noah but that is incorrect. Because cutthroat/rainbow are a hybridized fish, they can have different coloration, depending on which hatchery raised them so ...more they might be a slightly different cutbow that you are familar with. These are cutthroat rainbow hybrids from Mt Lassen fish farm. The rainbows in these lakes have almost no red on them at all. I actually know the truck driver that planted them and had a discussion about their origin and bloodlines when they were put in this lake in 2016.

      Those are rainbows, not cutbows

About

I Quit fishing when I was 22. Started fishing again when I was 64- about two years ago. Enjoying exploring the many Sierra Nevada lakes and rivers ...more - mostly for trout. I've had moderate success and I very much enjoy being at or on the waters in the wilderness whether I'm catching or getting skunked. Made a great living as s professional photographer for 40 years and have slowed down with that in recent years to pursue fun outdoors time - mostly with a rod in-hand.
