  2. Alright hopefully someone has some advice. I need suggestions for a good release for my down rigger. All lake trolling and such with live bait but would like to ...more run some spoons and other lures as well. Thanks everyone

    1. Peter Olechiw 0
Yea that was definitely the case. Trolling small live baits was fine but once I went to a spoon I couldn't get it to stay clipped for the life of me. Thats my ...more biggest issue I just feel like I'm guessing when using the pad style release.
    2. Capt Morris Campbell 0
We pull everything from live baits to wahoo/marlin size lures on the blacks.
    3. Capt Morris Campbell 0
Your line gets chafed by the pad style and the tension is not right.
    4. Peter Olechiw 0
I really like the design of the blacks release over the cannon rubber pad clothes pin design which is currently driving me crazy. I think I'm going to go ahead ...more and order one up and give it a go. Seems to be a lot less wondering than hoping I seated the line in deep enough but not too far and so on. Thanks for the help!
    5. Capt Morris Campbell 0
I've used them in salt and freshwater. We use them on our outriggers, kites, flat line clips and downriggers
    6. Capt Morris Campbell 0
Black's release clips. Simple, adjustable and almost indestructible.

  3. Got just over a dozen yellow perch in one perch spot. Couldn't find the crappies or stripers but had fun none the less.

11 in. Yellow Perch with a 1/4oz green jig

    1. joe b 0
      the walleyes aren't far behind...
  4. Simple slider rig with 1/2 oz and a live herring. Found a whole mess of decent white catfish biggest was just over 2 lbs.

2 lb. 3 oz. 16 in. White Catfish with a herring

    1. Definitely a whitey
    2. Christopher Pereira 0
i can see it's barbels are white so you are correct as far as i know, white catfish
    3. Peter Olechiw 0
I believe its a white Catfish but I could be mistaken. Main options really are a channel cat or a Brown bullhead with I'm sure it is not.
    4. Noah Shapiro 0
      White catfish?
    5. Christopher Pereira 0
Couldn't keep the hybrids off us trying to get walleye for the contest. Arty's wife bam even got a pretty big channel cat haha. Ended up with only 2 walleye ...more arty caught but one was big enough to have a chance at 2nd or third, we'll see
    6. Peter Olechiw 0
Water is beautiful everything was at a nice 63-64 degrees definitely beginning to see water clarity improve too. I've just had no luck with the hybrids found ...more a few schools on the sonar but couldn't get a bite on the herring. I gotta figure out how to properly fish the chicken liver it looks like
    7. steve romain 0
Great job!! Surprised you didn't get any hybrids! How was the water out there

  5. Well I snagged my first channel catfish last night. At least I think it's a channel cat? Got just over a dozen brown catfish and a ton of rock bass.

1 lb. 4 oz. 15 in. Channel Catfish with a live herring on a light up bobber

    1. Peter Olechiw 0
I wouldn't argue with that haha they drop a lot of the fish in at lees if I'm not mistaken. I caught that thing 3 feet off the wall at chestnut point. Was ...more very surprised to say the least
    2. Christopher Pereira 0
      Looks like a fresh stocker
    3. Peter Olechiw 0
It's about time I found one haha although this one was certainly shear dumb luck.
    4. Christopher Pereira 0
      Yes looks like a channel

  6. Drifting herring trying to find some hybrid bass but only managed a couple of these guys. I have a feeling I need to use the smallest split shot I have i think I ...more had a 1/4 ounce on.

1 lb. 12 oz. 14 in. Brown Bullhead Catfish with a live herring

    1. Peter Olechiw 0
Yea I was out until about 7 then the wind was more than I felt like dealing with. Best of luck out there hope to see a hybrid posted later!
    2. steve romain 0
I just talked to Laurie and it should be good to fish tonight into the morning!!
    3. Peter Olechiw 0
Yea I totally forgot about the races Chris. The test and tune starts 12-4 today and the races are starting Sunday 1130-4. Says they are going to start laying the ...more course at 9 Am. Check out OPAracing.com for the full schedule of the event
    4. steve romain 0
Hey Chris, What time does that start? I am going on Saturday night into Sunday morning
    5. Christopher Pereira 0
There's a Grand Prix boat race Steve, heads up!
    6. steve romain 0
Thanx!! I will let you know how I do!! If your out there say hello! I have a 2016 black/red tracker bass boat!!
    7. Peter Olechiw 0
No worries I was off Elba point and tried for a few in front of the the yacht club. Definitely saw some schools by the yacht club though I couldn't connect.
    8. steve romain 0
That is what I am told! I am going double fisted with herring and some chicken livers and let's see what works! If you don't mind me asking where did you ...more fish? Not looking to burn any spots
    9. Peter Olechiw 0
I mean I lost 4 herring to some real nice hits but wasn't able to hook up with anything other than the cats. I was definitely keeping my bait too far towards ...more the bottom with the split shot on there but I was also alone and anchored which is not ideal. People have been catching them according to the chatter at the bait shops though
    10. steve romain 0
Going to try for some Hybrids stripers , Saturday night into Sunday morning, no action on them yesterday?

  7. My personal best for lake hopatcong and my first year fishing the lake. Caught this during my very first tournament as well as a 14 inch 10 oz yellow perch. Took ...more home 3rd place in the King of the lake tourney. Only 15 entrants though. So happy to land this fish I didn't take a picture till my friend came out later.

2 lb. 7 oz. 18 in. Largemouth Bass with a Jig black and silver 3/8oz

    1. Christopher Pereira 0
      haha no surprise
    2. Peter Olechiw 0
Oh and not ONE channel caught was caught for it haha
    3. Peter Olechiw 0
Yea it's definitely a nice format that's what drew me in was the ability to not have to target a specific species. I'm hoping they can save it. Maybe ...more do one earlier in the year as it seems with school starting and sports pre seasons for many people that kept them out of it. Well see what happens.
    4. Christopher Pereira 0
Eh that sucks, it's a really cool format. Actually one of my favorite. Takes a lot of the luck factor out unlike the '1 big fish wins' contests. Just ...more couldn't do it this year.
    5. Peter Olechiw 0
Yea that was the chatter at Dows. Seems this may even have been last year of that tournament rumored it may be replaced with another striper contest. I'm going ...more to spend some time next few weeks trying for walleye and striper but as I mentioned I'm just really learning lake fishing for the first time this year. If I get a walleye it'll be my first haha. Either way for 20 bucks I'll enter the tourney just for fun
    6. Christopher Pereira 0
nice job, we didn't do that contest...seems to get less participants each year. see you at the walleye contest next month though!

  8. Took a few hours to even find a sunny to bite but then manage 4 nice rock bass right before quitting time.

11 oz. Rock Bass with a pinched night crawler on a 1/16 jig head drop shot rig.

  9. Got into a dozen or so yellow perch today along with the occasional sunny. None very big but I did catch my record smallest perch yet at just over 3 inches.

11 in. Yellow Perch with a crawler

    1. Christopher Pereira 0
yeah pretty sad. no one is addressing it...no clue what happened. my first big fish anywhere was a channel cat out of hopatcong, 14.5lbs. since then i have caught ...more ZERO channel cats there. it's been years!
    2. Peter Olechiw 0
Yea I agree 100% believe me I've looked at a lot of your catches you def know your way around fish. Sadly I've found the same thing this year got maybe two ...more dozen cats this year so far and everyone was a bull head with the biggest just over 1 and half pounds lol pretty weak to say the last
    3. Christopher Pereira 0
past couple of years i believe were like this. arty and i placed 5th and 6th with bullheads...that's shouldn't happen haha. only a 3 channels caught total ...more by 49 contestants, not good. 8 is a nice one, don't get me wrong, but the numbers aren't there anymore it would seem, unless just no one can figure them out. If you want nice cats, cong is not the place i would fish haha.
    4. Peter Olechiw 0
Ya I was wondering if there was any quantity of big cats in hopatcong that seems to verify the numbers are very limited. The Kdc results do speak volumes. 1st was ...more 8lbs this year and almost all the rest were under 2lbs so that definitely confirms what your saying. Thanks for the information
    5. Christopher Pereira 0
Not on lake hopatcong. Take them to the river though. Cong sucks for catfish just look at the past few years results Kdc catfish contests.
    6. Peter Olechiw 0
I was wondering if they would make decent catfish bait. I've been throwing small back hooked bluegills and larger blue gills cut in half but haven't had ...more any luck yet. Then again I'm strictly going off all the reading I've done not sure if I'm even fishing em right.
    7. Christopher Pereira 0
Want to drop those at my house for giant catfish bait!?
    8. View full conversation
  10. Drop shotting a night crawler with about 36" of lead on the weight. Hooked into 4 nice crappie. Biggest was just over 1 lb. Got a half dozen or so yellow perch ...more as well.

1 lb. 2 oz. 11 in. Black Crappie with a crawler

    1. Scott Schulte 0
      That's a nice crappie
    2. Christopher Pereira 0
      Nice
