1. I have recently tried fishing a new lake for me. The fishing has been beyond anything I could have imagined. My first trip I landed 11 bass with 4 of them being ...more 17 inches or longer. The second trip blew my mind. I broke my former record for bass caught in a single day which was 16. It is now 20. Seven of those 20 were 17 inches or longer which is a new record for me. I also have a new personal best bass. It measured 22 inches with a 15 inch girth. It was caught with a live bluegill. The third trip yielded 17 bass. Five of those were 17 inches and above. All of these were caught from the bank. I didn't have anyone to photograph my 22 incher and couldn't get the entire fish in the photo but here it is.

Sounds like a great place to fish
  2. What a lucky day I had catching this 5 pounder. I stayed at the lake much longer than I would have due to a scouting group taking over the area for canoe and kayak ...more testing. The reward for staying put was this beast. Look at the belly on this thing. It was quite a handful trying to hold it with one hand and shoot the photo with the other. By the time I caught it there was no one to help take a photo.

I caught this on a live shiner fished on a Carolina rig. It darn near tore the rod holder out of the ground.

  3. This was my other big catch of the day on the same day as my new best bass. I honestly thought it was a bass when I first caught sight of it. It measured in right ...more at 14 inches.

  4. This past Sunday I decided not to skip my fishing trip to Cottonwood Lake, North of Decatur, TX. It was the best decision I could have made. During the time that ...more I was fishing from the shore I caught a new personal best Black Crappie and Largemouth Bass. The Crappie was 14 inches, but I didn't get a weight. The Bass was 21 inches with a 14 inch girth. At 5.1 pounds it outweighed my former personal best by a full 2 pounds. Both were caught on live minnows. I wish that I had someone at home that was better with a camera but at least I got photos.

  5. I'm interested in trying to fish Lake Ouachita in early July. I've never been there and don't have a boat. Can anyone give me locations where there is ...more public access to fish from the bank?

  6. It was partly cloudy and in the lower 70s when I started fishing. I arrived just before 7 am. Both fish were caught from the bank around 8 to 10 yards out. The larger ...more of the two was 18 inches and weighed 3 pounds even. The smaller bass was 17 inches and weighed 2 pounds 8 ounces. They were caught on a Lews Laser Pro Speed Stick rod paired with a Daiwa Tatula reel spooled with 20 lb. braid.

Nice catch!! It's almost hog season! Big ones will be closer to shore.
  7. This was my first ever Walleye. It was caught within 2 to 3 feet of the shore and less than 3 feet deep. It was 22.5 inches long and had to be released. I shed a ...more bit of blood but it was worth it.

About

I've been fishing since I was old enough to hold a rod. I'm old fashioned in that I prefer a closed face reel and find nightcrawlers to be my ...more most reliable bait. I'll fish any kind of body of water and love to catch anything that bites. Last year I got adventurous enough to try out my first baitcast setup. It didn't turn out to be as difficult as I expected. I've developed a great fondness for Daiwa reels and now have a Tatula and a Lexa 400HD.

Fishing Favorites

  • Species Largemouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, Channel Catfish, Bluegill, Northern Pike
  • Waterway Anywhere I can catch fish. Some specifics include Miller Dam in Wisconsin, Harriet Creek near my home in Justin, TX, Marshall Creek in Trophy Club Park, also near home, and Cottonwood Lake near Decatur, TX.
  • Lure Haven't had much luck with anything artificial except for one shallow crankbait that I lost to a snag. I've had a number of strikes on my Whopper Ploppers so I'll keep trying it until I have success.
