1. Details: 4 lb. 16 in. Largemouth Bass with a MAG II Pumpkin Chartreuse

Second cast, 1/8th oz Texas rig bumping slooow across what felt like rocky bottom. Derek Herring you were spot on about fishing the points. This was about 11am ...more with 10-15 knot south wind. Had to stay in the Lee of the point to keep from getting blown away from the shore. Hooked up another about the same size but it spit the hook about 10 feet out from the boat.

Good deal!!! They are generally there this time of year so I'm really happy it worked out for you. Congrats on a nice one!!
  2. Headed to Lake Bastrop for a few days and will be fishing in a kayak launching from North Shore Park. Any recommendations for finding some bass? Forecaster shows ...more a 100 score, but is that even remotely accurate? Thanks!

Brian, you can catch good bass all day on Bastrop even in the middle of summer. You just have to find where they are at and approach them correctly. I have a video ...more of my catching them in the heat of the day, on a very clear high pressure day.

Another tip, get on the water before sunrise. This lake is worthless for bass by noon when the water temp can get as high as 80 in some places.

Catch them with a cast net. there are lots of perfect size bait perch to be found hanging around the boat docks at north shore. If you dont have a cast net, use ...more ultra light tackle with live worms or tiny spinner baits. If you dont want to hassle with live bait on the kayak, then you should do equally well with artificial worms rigged Carolina style.

Brian, saw both your posts - thanks! Did you leave any behind? This is a fresh water newbie question - where would I get some live perch, buy or catch?

Go to the power plant outflow channel. I kayak fish there all the time with great luck. Can get there in about 15 min of moderate effort from north shore park. ...more Coming back is a little harder if the wind kicks up.

Doug I just marked a spot that should be within paddling distance for you to try. I've done really well there before in the heat of summer.
