In the winter of 2013 my fishing club Fox Valley Area Anglers had a booth at a local fishing show. A guy comes up to me while I was working our booth, and asked ...more if I could guide a veteran for a day of fishing. As the president of the club I asked my fellow club members to join. I asked them what do you want to say you did last weekend around the water cooler at work. Do you want to say a burned a couple of burgers on the grill and watch the Cubs lose another ball game, or do you want to say a volunteered in a charity and took vets fishing for a day and get my picture in the newspaper. thus a few more members volunteered. Well the day before the event I decided to prefish so I can put my assigned vets on fish. I had never fished Lake Waubesa in Madison Wi. Next thing I know I was catching bass one after another. I switch colors on my wacky worm and it did not make a difference on this day. Well after 18 bass I knew one of my vets was in town. I gave him a call and told him to get his butt down to the boat ramp the fish are on "fire". My vet was an inexperience fisherman, he mostly did float fishing for pan fish. If you have not fished a wacky worm it seems like hanging a piece of plastic would not be very productive. But on this day the Bass cooperated with our presentation. We ended up catching 55 Bass and Skid my vet caught his biggest Bass of his life. A nice 18". The next day Skid and I were joined by Ed my second vet. We caught 25 more bass in a half day. During the event there were raffles for the vets. Skid happened to win the grand prize a week stay in Canada. He landed a 46" musky during the week. And good karma came back to me for that fall I won a tournament on lake Waubesa with a limit of Bass from 18"-20" each.
