      NOT even getting the bites...

Hey BD, I'm no pro, but until today I've always managed to get a frog bite. Are you getting bites and not just hooking them? - if so, you may should try ...more getting a "double frog hook"...it'll help you hook more while fine tuning your skills. If you aren't even getting bites on it, then I can only tell you what works for ME. I have regular frogs and hollow body floating frogs, but I have more confidence and good fortune using a frog that kicks. My preference is Stanley Ribbit (with or without he double take hook - they even make their own hook).

I hold rod high and slightly to the right while reeling the frog (keeping it busting at the surface). When the bite happens, point the rod at the spot where the bite occurred. Make sure you're giving the fish a decent pause to enjoy the frog. I suggest saying something to yourself such as "One, Two, my frog got you" or something...before setting the hook. Ok....you MAY NOT want to say something like that out loud if you're fishing with a buddy...but the point is to wait and I think that allows a decent amount of time. You'll learn as time goes on what amount of delay works best for you.

I'll tell you, there are a lot of good videos on YouTube if you search the subject of frog fishing. Search Kurtis Mays and check out how he delays his punch on setting the hook - he makes it look like child's play.

Hope this helped. Keep after 'em.

I JUST can't seem to catch any bass on a frog. I fish it a lot in the Harris Chain, especially Lake Eustis, Lake Dora and Haines Creek. ANY pointers for me? ...more I fish almost EVERY day!

  3. Bass prespawn on Lake Seminole (GA). Placed 6 th out of 110 in tourney there 2/14/15. Humminbird and Costa helped see what was down there, but found on 5-7 ft ...more contours in submerged grass. Jig and trap to find green grass and you got good spot. Water sitting in low 50 's.
