1. Details: Largemouth Bass with a purple worm

Biggest of four bass. The worm just hit the water and sank for a little then they attacked it. It was very windy and the water was cold

  2. Details: Blue Catfish with a fly

Here's a question who's caught a catfish off a fly? This is also my first fish fly fishing. I don't know how I caught a cat but it put a heck if a fight ...more and I really enjoyed it.

    1. Andrew Allen 0
Nope I have bad memories with them @Cowboy713
    2. King_Fisher 0
      I've always wanted to!
    3. Calvin Wolf 0
I've caught 6 on the fly
    4. Chris Skinner 0
      You don't like catfish?
    5. Andrew Allen 0
      Thanks @nwhite
    6. bassmaster3 0
Never saw that happen I do not like catfish I am more of a bass fisherman but nice catch
    7. Andrew Allen 0
They are fun but I don't like them haha @Cowboy713
    8. Chris Skinner 0
I fish for em all the time in my friends stock pond, loads of fun!
    9. Andrew Allen 0
Yeah I don't like catfish either but iv been catching more I caught one off a minnow a couple weeks ago @reddogflies
    10. reddogflies 0
I have caught two before on the fly. Smaller channel cats seem to be quite aggressive sometime I caught mine while I was stripping the fly fast for bass. It was ...more weird because I saw him chase it too.
    11. Andrew Allen 0
Haha it was the strangest thing @lemesnil
    12. lemesnil 0
I've caught two in all the years I've worked flies... Your lure was just irresistible.

@andrewallenwvu a heads up if your gonna use the avenger rod for surf fishing its not to good to cast (all from personal experience)
    2. Andrew Allen 0
Thanks guys I just bought a new rod and reel it's a 7' okuma avenger with a av 300l reel I appreciate all the information and it sounds really confusing ...more but I learned a lot @jacob_new @Cowboy713
    3. Chris Skinner 0
Conventional reels with my eyes closed
    4. Chris Skinner 0
I'd be willing to bet it needs the bushings/ bearings replaced if it's been sitting a long time, if you need help checking out the innards let me know, I ...more can clean and rebuild Those old style
    5. jacob jacob 0
      300yds 50#mono the rest 65#braid
    6. jacob jacob 0
Alrightidjust spool it the way you would spool a 6/0 i think drag is similar. Maybe a bit less
    7. Andrew Allen 0
      @jacob_new
    8. Andrew Allen 0
      It's a lot smaller than a 9/0 I don't know exactly how big but around a 5 or a 6
    9. jacob jacob 0
Looks a bit smaller. Compare spools and let me know how similar they look
    10. Andrew Allen 0
      I don't know @jacob_new
    11. jacob jacob 0
      It bigger than a 9/0?
    12. Andrew Allen 0
      Okay thanks @jacob_new
    13. jacob jacob 0
50 lb mono would only give you an extra 20-30 yards on the spool
    14. jacob jacob 0
Id do like 300 yds of mono. Not sure the test depending on drag. Im guessing it does 15-20 in wich case id do 30 lb mono. But more depending on the spool size. 50 ...more lb mono would be fine but so would 65
    15. jacob jacob 0
