Finally some awesome weather!! Warm weather, lots of sun, and even the rain is happening while it is warm out.... gives us all hope that SUMMER is right around the ...more corner...... HELLO SPRING (FINALLY!!)
The waters are finally starting to warm up a little bit, and are cooperating with us for some nice inlet trips. Although the fish aren't huge, its a great eating fish, that is fun for everyone to catch! Great trip for the family, and the kids! Four hour trips start at $650 (cash price for 6 people). Trips are available daily! Call us for more information or to book a trip.
There was also a nice sighting of an awesome tautog that made its way to our scales! A nice big size that shows that there are plenty of good taugs out there for catching... and eating! The head boats have been having some decent luck on their 3/4 day trips right now, although the fishing is still just picking up. But nonetheless, there are some big ones out there! Take a look at the photos below! Congrats!!
We had an offshore deep drop charter boat head out today. They had some beautiful weather, that MORE THAN COOPERATED with their trip!!! And no one could have asked ...more for better temperatures than we have had this week, and over the next few days! Yay for no more snow!! The black bellied rose fish made a great trip with their quantity and they are more than just good eating... they are AMAZING to eat!!! The barrell fish also added some weight to the trip; and allowed the anglers to really get some arm strength going. To round out the trip there were also a few streamer bass caught... streamer bass are generally VERY rare and they can almost be mistaken for a black bellied rose fish if you don't look carefully... the difference is the pink streamers that are coming right off of their sides. Check them out!
We will keep updating as the trips start heading out more this season!! Or you can always call us to check out what has been happening lately.
The Tautog are finally starting to show up! We had a private boat pull in to weigh a few and one made citation size. Tautog, also called Blackfish, are a really ...more good eating fish and definitely fun to catch while we all await the warmer water temperatures. The run to catch them isn't as far as an offshore deep-drop trip so this is an ideal fishery if you are looking for a shorter trip to entertain your family or friends.
While this cold weather may be a downer for those who are sad to see summer go, it is great news for Striper fishermen! This cold weather means that the water temperatures ...more are dropping and that the striper are on their way. Stripers prefer this cold water, and they certainly rule the coast during these cold months. They live and feed in huge schools right off our coast. If you have ever seen the commotion they cause on the surface of the water when they are feeding, you know it is quite a sight. They attract birds and anglers from all around! This is a sight we are looking forward to.
Until these fish get here, there is some great action going on in Rudee Inlet. Local anglers are in here daily buying lures and bait to get in on this action. The Speckled Trout fishing is great. Anglers are telling us that a variety of lures are working well for jigging and casting. They are using Gotcha plugs, Grubs with a contrasting Jig Head, and of course the Gulp. If you are not familiar, Gulp are scented Grubs that come in a variety of colors, and they work! We are also getting reports of Stingsilvers and Mirro-Lures working well for the Specked Trout, Bluefish and Puppy Drum. We are getting more reports of Puppy Drum in the inlet with many angler releasing them up to about 20". There are also a lot of reports of Bluefish. However many of these reports have come from people getting the tails of their lures bitten off. If you want to target these fish, make sure to include a steel leader and you may consider switching from the Grubs and Jig Heads to tougher lures such as the Gotcha Plugs or the Stingsilvers and Mirro-Lures. This way the Bluefish can't bite them in half! Bluefish have strong jaws and sharp teeth which can cause you to lose many grubs, but they are certainly a blast to catch.
Don't forget that we sell all the tackle you will need for the inlet here in the shop. We have a great variety of grubs almost covering a whole wall. We also have a huge variety of sizes and colors in the Gotcha Plugs, Mirro-Lures, Stingsilvers, and many other lures that work well in the inlet. All the girls in the office are avid inlet fisherwomen, and can certainly help you find some good tackle. We also have great locals that visit the shop who are willing to share secrets with us, so we always have the inside scoop on what is going on!
Come check us out and see what is biting today!

The offshore boats did FANTASTIC today!!! Not only did they have gorgeous seas and blue skies, but they had fish bites all day! This is such a great time of year ...more for offshore fishing because we are transitioning from our peak season of Marlins to our peak season of Tunas so the boats are getting a wide variety of fish to throw on the docks. We saw Blue Marlin and White Marlin releases, Longfin Tuna, Dolphin and Wahoo! The racks of fish today were beautiful and we saw nothing but smiling faces from the charters!
The Top Notch went on a morning trip and found a school of Cobias to fish out of in which they were successful as well as catching two Bonitas! They had gorgeous ...more weather out on the water and the family couldn't have been happier!
The winds have finally calmed down and the boats are out fishing today! We have two boats offshore and we've seen many private boats head out as well so we should ...more have a good report this afternoon when they return.
Because of the high winds for almost a week now, most anglers have been shore fishing to curb their appetite for a bite. Rudee Inlet has been quite the hot spot and we've been hearing some good reports that Puppy Drum and Spot are the most prevalent fish right now and the Speckled Trout have even started to show up. We have been doing our best to keep the Bloodworms in stock for everyone as they have been the choice bait and flying off the shelf. Artificial Bloodworms and artificial Clams have been very popular and as always, the Gulp are the choice grubs. Squid and Mullet have been the favorite cut bait among the anglers which we have also been doing our best at keeping stocked. When the fish are biting we can always tell by how fast we sell down our bait!

The weather conditions are a bit windy for our boats to go offshore today, so a few were cancelled.
Speaking of inshore fishing, the inlet is full of great sized ...more puppy drum! You can catch a nice variety of species ranging from delicious croaker, spot, flounder, bluefish, and speckled trout as well! Our bloodworms have been flying off the shelf so come get some, while they are still in stock!
Check out this awesome puppy drum that Amy Barden caught in the inlet this morning!
