Pymatuning Lake Fishing Reports

Recently shared catches and fishing spots

  1. Yesterday, I fished the KAWPA and KANEOH Battle at the Border 2023 tournament at Pymatuning. I have never done well at this lake, and I did not get much if any practice. ...more So, I decided to launch from a spot that I had never fished before based on some reports that I had seen on a couple of discussion boards and a tip from a friend. I fished lily pads and grass mats and stayed in one bay for the entire tournament. It paid off. I caught 13 bass over the course of the day, and managed a limit of 82.25”, which was good enough for 6th place out of 109 anglers, and I cashed a check. I fished cleanly, except for one nice largemouth that unpinned in a pad stem right next to my kayak. That fish would have probably put me in 2nd place; but that’s how it goes when you fish pads and grass. Thanks to the leadership at Kayak Anglers of Western PA and Kayak Anglers of Northeast Ohio for putting on another great tournament.

  10. This past weekend, I entered my third tournament with the Kayak Anglers of Western PA at Pymatuning. I started the morning off well with three keepers. I was able ...more to get my five fish limit (only a third of the anglers had limits). I caught 18 bass overall, but was unable to cull my two smallest fish. I finished the day in 16th out of 96 anglers with 76.25 inches. I needed one big fish to place in the money. The next morning, I had a good day in Presque Isle (10 bass, 4 smallmouth). Still a few smallies in the Bay.

2 lb. 9 oz. 17 in. Largemouth Bass with a Gary Yamamoto Original Senko Worms

    1. Nikki Christy 0
thank you so much for the info!!! we avoid lake Arthur bc we don’t do good there. but I always see your posts. I have different color worms but not green pumpkin ...more with the flake. maybe our next trip will be there. thanks again and hope you have a great fishing season 😁
    2. Frank Yamada 0
Nikki, I do fish other baits, but the Yamamoto Senko is my confidence bait. I fish it Texas-rigged without weight. It’s a very versatile bait, and I fish it several ...more different ways. The most popular color, green pumpkin with black flake, works well on many lakes, though it depends on the lake, time of year, and what bait the bass are chasing (for example, if there are schools of shad, then you will want to “match the hatch”).
    3. Nikki Christy 0
hello frank! great job getting 16th! It seems you stick with the Gary Yamamoto. can I ask how you rig it? and if I’m not pushing it here…what color?

Mike A., Mike P. is correct. Each angler has to measure their fish using an approved measuring board. For each fish, you have to submit a picture on the board (with ...more a bunch of rules like no open mouth, the fish has to be touching the edge of the board, facing the right direction, etc. You submit your catches on an app. There is a judge who verified the length. And the site (TourneyX) tracks the standings in real time.
    6. Rick S 0
      Excellent!
    7. Rick S 0
      Excellent!
    8. Michael P 0
these tournaments have judges that verify every fish uploaded to the app being used by every competitor so there’s no honor system involved.
    9. Mike A. 0
      *Who is confirming..?
    10. Mike A. 0
Hey Frank! Good job! I’m just wondering if this is an honor system tournament? Who confirming the measurements? I play in golf tournaments so I am well aware of ...more honor system scoring. LOL
    11. Mark Merlin 0
      Ditto what Jim said
    12. Matt L 0
      way to go!
    13. Jim Holland 0
      Great job at the tourney!
