The normal spot was taken, as was the second choice, so I went further down to a spot that rarely produces action. Tried with a Rapala for a while to no avail, switched to straight night crawlers and let the current drag them along the bottom. An hour later, I've got myself four rainbows. Complaints? Who me? Never.

I haven't caught one in a long time either, but I'm sure they are still around. I was fishing in the summer then. It's the only time I caught them. ...more I don't fish Topaz in the summer anymore since then. One carp was 12lb, the other was over 20lb!!
I was fishing on the west side at the popular drive down spot. Using red worms. To my knowledge they've never 'killed' off the lake, so I bet they're still there.

I didn't know there was carp in Topaz. That's no good at all. Haven't caught one yet, thankfully.

I wonder why California Fish and Game kinda 'gave up' on Topaz? They used to do a lot of planting, I remember when they tried some HUGE brown trout plants ...more back in the 60's and 70's.. Then they placed the little tag boxes at various places. When those went away, we heard nothing. I think CDFW plants Topaz once per year. Thanks to NDOW for keeping at it. No trout will reproduce successfully as long as they have those big CARP in the lake, I've seen them eat the minnows by the bucketful..

Upon further inspection, Topaz lake is the most heavily stocked lake in the western region of Nevada. 16,298 rainbow trout so far this year. They put 2007 browns ...more in the canal back in June of 2017.

Yes, I believe they stock browns in the canal... or did last year. I'll have to look it up.

Have fished Topaz for years, but not much in the Canal till my brother moved up there... Usually good fishing if you are kinda stealthy. I think that NDOW even ...more plants the canal...??
