I love ice fishing because it gives me a chance to target species I might otherwise never try for. Some buddies and I caught about 50 smelt through the ice on panfish rods last night. It's good to be well rounded, multi species angler. Even if you have a favorite species to target, it's often smart to take a break and try something different. It gives you a different perspective on the food chain and ecosystem and might open your eyes to alternate strategies for the species you like to target most. I'm looking forward to trying this again!
