Which should I try to get , pen defiance 30 or Abu Garcia 7000i /c3 can't decide which would be better for surf and pier ?

  Yeah, you'll be able to cast the about further and be able to land 4 and 5 foot sharks from the surf. Hook into a 6 or 7 footer and you're probably toast

  The 7000 is an awesome reel, I've caught a 6 foot blacktip on a reel with weaker drag and smaller line cap @holden_adams but this was in a boat. From the shore ...more is a whole different game

  Both are decent starter combos. I'd pick the once with the most line capacity and the most drag
