I started out fishing shallow at daybreak. 20 min in my tip up closest to shore flag goes off.. I pull in a 24 inch 5 lbs pickerl and that was it till noon... No more flags.. I had a lot of smallerbait from last weeks trip fishing for perch and crappie so I moved all my tip ups out 100 yards to a drop that I had my new holes at 18-25 feet fishing perch and crappie... I am using 1 inch shiners and they are tiny... I get a flag and I pull in my biggest perch ever... Nice 12inch fatty... I had a few later misses on the smaller fish that day .. Then at 415 pm my flag goes off.. I am fishing alone and no 1 in sight... I start pulling in a hog on a 1 inch shiner.. The funny thing is I had no mono to fish for small fish so I left on my 18 inch red liters and small trebles ..this pike ran from the hole 5 times .. What power it displayed... I had my trusty gaff on me as usual cause I usually fish for pike..I finally hooked it by the mouth and brought it up.. 38 inch pike 13 lbs and it was 17 round girth... What a hog !!!!! And this was my biggest pike ever... I had 6 flags all day and 3 of them were my 3 biggest caught of the species.. What a day
