    This past weekend, I fished two tournaments: one on the Youghiogheny River for PA BASS Nation; and a second on the Connoquenessing Creek for Keystone Bass Kayak ...more Series. I caught over 40 smallmouth bass on the two days, but I was unable to find the big ones consistently. My personal highlight came on the first fish of the weekend on the Yough, a 19 1/4 inch smallie, which I hooked at the top of a rapid, and then fought it through the rapid before landing it in the shallows down river—my own personal version of Brad Pitt in A River Runs Through It, except I was in a kayak the whole time. It was quite a fight (and on 4-lb test). The fish was good enough to take the big bass award and a $140 payout.
