Overcast and cool today only getting in the low 60s. I got the river after work again and caught this little guy. I believe it is a sauger due to the spots on its dorsal but it may be a saugeye. I also had a nice sized what appeared to be a pike on the line but I lost him right at the bank.

Upon a closer look, it is NOT a Saugeye but a pure Walleye. I had misjudged the spotting on the dorsal fins, and they are nowhere near as dense or dark as a Saugeye's ...more would be. My bad. It's a Walleye

Thank you @wyldechylde77. I've been on the internet all evening looking this up and now I too am pretty positive it's a saugeye. Thanks everyone!!! Tite ...more lines

(GEEZ, TYPOS!). Spotting on the fins is Sauger trait. Those two characteristics are classic Saugeye markings to look for 😉

(Whoops) it's neither Sauger nor Walleye, but a Saugeye, which is a hybrid between the two. See the white spot on the bottom tail fin? Walleye trait, and ...more the sporting on the fins is Sauger trait.

That's because it is neither Sauger not Walleye.

That's what I posted it as but haven't caught enough of either of them to know. Do you generally go by the spots on the dorsal? Sorry to be a bother just ...more trying to learn a bit.

      Definitely not walleye

Looks like your getting different opinions. Looks like a sauger to me. I enlarged your pic looks like the markings sauger has.

Between walleye, sauger, and saugeye I have a heck of a time determining which is which. You very well could be right. Thanks for the input.
