I am looking at buying a new truck to haul around a larger boat. The boat would be a 2001 triton tr-186 (18 ft 6in) fiberglass bass boat it is about 1400lbs not including the motor and trailer. And the rig I am looking at to tow it is a 1996 GMC Sierra 1500 4.3L V6 but it is only 2 wheel drive. And the towing capacity for the truck is 2000lbs. So my question is if it will pull/launch it ok?

The 5.2 should be plenty as the 150 Johnson weighs roughly 500 if it is two stroke

      It's got a 150 Johnson. We aren't going to buy the 4.3L v6 we are looking at a dodge 5.2L v8

I recommend not getting a tundra. It has the lowest towing capacity of a full size truck. What size horsepower does the boat have
    6. dgrabe217 0
That is low towing capability for the specs of the truck.

I like GMC.... Never tried a Chevy but I think it is because there are so many older gmc and Chevys... I feel like I don't see as many old fords, I had an old ...more GMC and the transmission went out but its

I no people who are having tons of problems with their transmissions going out on gmc and chevys i would go with a toyota tundra if its in ur price range

Look for something with a 5.3 V8 more than enough power for that, and no 4x4 really needed, but it does come in handy

Thank you for your help! I am just skeptical about buying the truck especially if it is going to be difficult to launch and load the boat up from the water.. @Cowboy713 ...more @Slightchop

^^^^ well said the weight will definitely make your truck slide into the water on a steep slick ramp
    13. Chris Skinner 0
Ramp would be hairy. So I would give it a try, but be cautious of the ramp you're using
    14. Chris Skinner 0
Far as can it launch that boat? It depends on the length, angle, and depth of the ramp, a long, flat ramp into fairly shallow water, on a ramp with good traction, ...more no problem, but a steep ramp or slick

The answer is tricky there, under most circumstances the answer to "will it tow?" Is yes, the better question is "will it stop the load?" It ...more will pull that, your gas mileage will just suffer a lot. As
