After loosing 2 sharks due to being under gunned on my international 30w I'm in the market for a new reel. I'm thinking 50 or 80w Avet or Okuma. What are y'all's thoughts. Avet trx 50w vs 80w vs okuma 50w? Also line recomendations. 200 lbs power pro vs 130 lbs jerry brown hollow core vs 80 lbs mono.

Avet 50w you will not get spooled if you use it right. Don't slap full on the fish unless you really need to because that 50w will put out too much drag out ...more quick!

Avet though so I can't speak for them. The Penns are easy to use and easy to maintain

I have a Penn senator 9/0 with 80# braid and a 65# mono top shot, I think it can handle pretty much anything I'll be dealing with in Texas and it is much cheaper ...more than the Avets. I've never owned an

I would go with and 80 makira they are bigger and have plenty of drag

Just saw I can get the okuma makira and the avet trx 50w for the same price. What would y'all choose and why? @mredus8 @matt @MullettHead @garrettjweiss @Capt_Jack

      Alright thanks. @mredus8

Up. You do what you want to but that's how I would do it

It does get cut no matter what. But the reason is to put more line on the reel. Hollow core will lay down flat so you can put more on the reel. That's how everybody ...more I know in Florida sets there reels

@mredus8 I though braid gets cut easy from shells and stuff and you want lots more mono. So would hollow core act different than solid core?
    13. mredus8 0
As much line as you can fit. If your going to be in Florida like you said then fill it with as much braid as you can. You only need a small top shot for shock. 200lb ...more at least dew to the reefs there
    14. cole_agouridis 0
How much line and what pound test do you recommend and or use? @mredus8
    15. mredus8 0
You need more to be able to hold more line and more drag to stop the sharks before they hit a reef
    16. cole_agouridis 0
@mredus8 is that with all sizes?

Many of the "gold" reels are also great, but they all catch fish, and it gets into personal preference.

50 or 80 avet has so much drag that I don't think you would ever feel out gunned ever again. The only down side to those reels is the price, and if that's ...more not an issue that go that route.
    19. mredus8 0
AVETS are not made to run all mono. If you do they will mess up. Jerry brown is the way to go. 80w will give you the line capacity you need to have.

      Drag

Do you think 610 yards of 60 lbs mono is enough @MullettHead I know the drags powerful enough (117 lbs on the trx) I know I'll have to eventually put braid on ...more it though if I want to ever use it's full

I look for drag and spool capacity. Both are good reels, the Avets have a cult following from TX sharkers. I always choose mono if I hve the spool capacity. ...more Never tried hollow core though

I have avet 80/w with 130 jb hollow with 100lb mono topshot I love it
