      I use line weights. There are calculations u can find on line that can tell you how deep they will run with dif. Weights and at dif. Speeds.

      I don't have planer boards. I'm not going to be putting out more than 3 rods. Does the J Plug dive deep?

      Watch fish finder if course. I use line counter reels.

      Small barrel sinker 1/4 oz. or so above a
      swivel with about a 3-4 inch leader for deep. Keep above their heads. No weight when trolling in shallow. Unused planner ...more boards. For about every 10 feet behind a board, bait will drop about 3 ft.

      Thanks for the help. Do you put weight on the line so the shiners are deeper in the water or are they on the top? In the morning I would need to be 20-25 feet ...more deep when trolling right?

      Shiners, herring work fine but die fast once hooked. Also had luck trolling J plugs

      Having luck with large / medium sinners. Slow troll down deep early, running shallow near dark.
