Walleye are crepuscular like deer, so dawn and dusk are your best bets since those are the times when they are naturally feeding. If you have to fish during the ...more middle of the day or in bright conditions go deep, since Walleyes have an advanced tapetum lucidium which is what makes their eyes reflective and more importantly increases their visual acuity in low light conditions. In lakes look for rock piles, steep drop offs and mud flats. In rivers key on current breaks and seams. Night crawlers and leaches work well in the summer while minnows and other small fish are their primary diet in the cooler months. Jig and minnow combinations are one of the most widely used presentations and are effective in most Walleye fishing scenarios. Other effective presentations include split shot rigs, Lindy rigs, trolled crawler harnesses, and cast or trolled crankbaits. Hope this helps.
